How do you go about reconciling with your Amish family when you have been shunned and your daed--father is the Bishop of your community? That is what Anna Mae McDonough, raised Amish, now married to an Englisher--non Amish, longs for. With her sister-in-law Kathryn's help Anna and her husband, Kellan plan to surprise her family at Christmas time...just weeks before their first child is born, praying and hoping for a miracle. With that hope in her heart, they leave their Baltimore home and travel to Lancaster County, PA days before Christmas. Things don't go as hoped, mostly due to Henry, Anna's stubborn father. What will it take to soften his heart? Emotions run high as family members meet for the first time in years, but the tension in the air may destroy any joy in their reunion.
I am sure the upcoming birth of Anna's first child has something to do with the longing to see her family as well as it being so close to Christmas. Her heartbreak could be felt as her own father turned from her as if she was not even there, I could have shaken him myself. It took a lot of love for Anna for Kellan to confront Henry and speak his heart the way he did and I think others were glad he did as well...I know I was. It was sad to see Anna and Kellan leaving without reconciling with her father in the midst of a snowstorm and suspense in what followed--which I won't share, don't want to spoil anything. Enjoyed the ending. The importance of family, forgiveness, love, hope, faith and God's grace are all aspects of this heartwarming story.
~I won a copy of the book from the author via Goodreads, (no monetary gain were exchanged), I was not required to give a review, this is my honest review~

What do you do when you leave your family behind I mean, how do you just go on with life, never having any contact with them?
This special novella introduces us to Anna Mae and her English husband Kellan McDonough.
Anna Mae knew when she left her community and the Amish faith and her vows that she was leaving her family behind forever. But she was in love! And she was convinced if she stayed in Lancaster County that shed be an old maid, never marrying and having a family of her own.
Now that Anna is expecting her first child, she is missing her family even more but if she returns home, she will be shunned.
If youre like me, you expect this story to have a happy ending after all, its about Christmas!
I wont spoil it for you, but there are a few twists and turns!
Amy does a great job showing how am Amish wife might help a friend who has left the faith, even though it means going against her husbands wishes.
This heart-warming novella shows the faith of one and the forgiveness and acceptance she earnestly desires. If you havent read it, dont wait another year until Christmas read it anytime!
