In the midst of family heartaches, can two young Amish people move past their grief and trust that Gods will includes finding happiness again?
Jamie Riehl might very well be burning both ends of the candle. Running the family farm keeps him busy enough, but add in his volunteering for the local fire department, and Jamie barely has time to eat at the family table, never mind find someone to date. But when he meets Kayla Dienner while responding to a fire, he is smitten.
Kayla tries so hard to deny her attraction to Jamie. After all, shes spent the last year trying to talk her younger brother, Nathan, out of joining the fire department. The death of their older brother in a fire a year ago has reinforced the dangers of just such a profession, and she cant bear the idea of putting her heart on the line every time the sirens blare.
When tragedy strikes, Jamie runs from the guilt he feels and buries himself in his work, extinguishing any flickers of a relationship between him and Kayla. In order to save the love she was so determined to deny, Kayla must set aside her own fears, trusting that the reward of love is far greater than the risk of pain.

KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A multi-layered love storyMarch 5, 2018KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This starts out as a classic love story -- boy meets girl, sparks fly, complications ensue -- but then it morphs into so much more. Because there is one complication that...well, it took my breath away. It had me closing the book in disbelief and dismay because this was so not where I saw things going. At all. And it made my heart hurt. And from that one situation a deeper story blossoms. One where the characters have to stop trying to figure God out and just trust Him. Where they have to face the hard stuff and get through just because it's the right thing...the only thing...to do. Where loving someone is as risky as it gets but also completely and utterly necessary. Because we aren't meant to live this life alone. We were created to love and support one another. And it's hard. And scary. But also thrilling. So, if you like your romance with a bit of kick to it, A Place at the Table is the book for you.
Rhonda Nash-hallMadison Heights VAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great romance for teens as well as adultsFebruary 26, 2018Rhonda Nash-hallMadison Heights VAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Amy Clipston, as usual, has done extensive research into the Amish faith and firefighters among the Amish and the Englisch for this first book in the Amish Homestead series. After reading this first book, I am eager to read the remaining books in series. The book begins with action and thrill as the firefighters receive a call to a fire in an Amish barn . There are animals and people to rescue and care for. Past trauma for Kayla as she lost her brother in a fire cause her to resist her attraction to Jamie because he's a firefighter too. Further developments for Jamie will put their relationship to the test.
Readers will be anxious to read and find out if Kayla and Jamie can move past their pain and grief to a relationship together or will they turn to others for their future partners? The Amish place great value in family and the thought of sitting around the kitchen table figure heavily into the Amish home. Is there a place at the table for Jamie? for Kayla?
I am rating this book 5 ***** stars. I highly recommend it to both adult and teenage readers.
I received an ebook of this selection from netgalley and Zondervan in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to post a positive review.
Musicgirl665 Stars Out Of 5HeartwarmingFebruary 14, 2018Musicgirl66Quality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Kayla Dienner has suffered heartbreak at the hands of a former boyfriend. Can she trust her heart again? Jamie Riehl has never been one to date and doesn't know how to relate to a girl even though he has 2 sisters. Tragedy strikes, is there any hope for Kayla and Jamie? I don't read a plethora of Amish book, but this is one I would highly recommend because the focus is on the characters, not the religion.
Anna MaeAge: Over 65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5A Place at Our Table by Amy ClipstonFebruary 7, 2018Anna MaeAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5A number of issues and how they are explored and dealt with are covered in this tale of our two lovers, Kayla and Jamie. The different members of their two families are thrown together by way of their Amish faith, occupations and sad loss.
There are many ups and downs, hurt feelings, wrong impressions and the way they are dealt with, keep you turning pages and you realize these two families love God but sometimes forget to trust Him.
There is much good advice woven throughout for us all to consider. Amy is an excellent storyteller and I look forward to how she resolves problems. I have many of her books.
Thank you, Fiction Guild, for this fine book!
