Publisher's Description

After fleeing Virginia, Temperance Tucker and her family established an inn along the Shawnee River. It's a welcome way station for settlers and frontiersmen traveling through the wild Cumberland region of Kentucke--men like Sion Morgan, a Virginia surveyor who arrives at the inn with his crew looking for an experienced guide. When his guide appears, Sion balks. He certainly didn't expect a woman. But it is not long before he must admit that Tempe's skill in the wilderness rivals his own. Still, the tenuous tie they are forming is put to the test as they encounter danger after danger and must rely on each other.

With her signature sweeping style and ability to bring the distant past to vivid life, Laura Frantz beckons readers to join her in a land of Indian ambushes, conflicting loyalties, and a tentative love that meanders like a cool mountain stream.

With A Moonbow Night, Laura Frantz has created such a clear feeling of being on the cusp of danger and discovery. More than just using dialect in the dialogue, the very narration itself seems rooted in time and place. It was that immersive sense of being in 1777 Kentucky, along with the characters and plotlines, that had me reading late into the night. How is this only my second book by this author?

Sion Morgan, surveyor and skeptic, captured my interest from the start. As he and his surveying team travel into the wilderness of 'Kentucke,' their dynamics are quickly established as is the danger they are placing themselves in. The oldest of the group, Nate, was endearing in his grizzled bible-verse spouting ways and conversely, Cornelius was immediately an annoying presence.

But it was Sion's first sighting of Temperance "Tempe" Tucker, and a subsequent chase through the trees that had me unable to put the book down. Tempe herself is a wonderful character, and I enjoyed meeting her family and seeing all of the different dynamics as well as the struggles that she was forced to go through.

Incorporating real characters in with the fictional, this is Historical Fiction to get lost in with a slow and sweet romance that is greatly tested. There is adventure, danger, and also a story of faith within this heart-felt story of risk, romance, and of healing.

A Moonbow Night is Historical Fiction to be savored. Highly recommended for those who enjoy Historical Fiction, Historical Romance, and sweet love stories with a faith element. Though only my second book by Laura Frantz, I think it safe to say that when it comes to Historical Christian Romance steeped in history and grounded in faith, she is one of the best.

This review refers to a paperback copy borrowed from my local library. I was previously approved for a NetGalley e-galley, but chose to read the paperback. All opinions expressed are my own.

It took years & literally hundreds of books to believe I could call an author my favorite. Then I met Laura. Her kindred-spirit writing reaches deeper into my soul every time we take another journey together. Lauras heroines stir desires we have forgotten, believe we dont deserve, or havent yet discovered within ourselves. A Moonbow Nights Tempe Tucker lived up to her legacy. Tempes staggering grief reminds us of the hemorrhaging blow sustained when we lose what mightve been. This kind of hopelessness hollows us out so thoroughly that we risk becoming only a brittle husk of our former selves. When Sion entered her world, Tempe had been bound to such life-draining agony for so long it had become part of her. Could she muster the strength to reach for a slender filament of hope, leaving the past buried? Remaining in this world meant resisting the call of her beloved; she could almost feel James waiting just beyond the gossamer veil in that undeniable sanctuary of eternity. Yet, the nudge of Sions larger than life presence awakened something in Tempe. Then, the sting of his coming and going kept her praying and pondering. Could God still have a future for her, or was she destined to endure continual heartache? Tempes mix of tender strength & quiet determination showcased the amazing complexity of our countrys pioneer women. Such an extraordinary leading lady deserves an exceptional hero. Sion met the challenge by embodying those rare qualities that make a man honorable, dependable, and worthy of respect. The appeal deepened as the story revealed his humanity, humility, and the regret he suffered because of own tragic loss. Sion wanted to offer Tempe another chance to love, but the frontier wilderness offers no promise of tomorrow. When both of their lives are threatened, will he even get the opportunity to decide? Lauras stories are always full-bodied, never resting completely on the shoulders of her main characters. This colorful & interesting cast added depth without minimizing the resonance & beauty of the primary story. You might be tempted to rush through, but savoring each delicious detail will require a more lingering pace. Why? Because like an afternoon spent with a treasured friend, you just cannot bear for this lovely story to end.

A Moonbow Night has all the elements that a Laura Frantz novel is known for: exquisite writing, where the reader feels they are right there in the wilderness along the characters; adventure; love and loss; and memorable, complex characters. Sion Morgan is a very complex man, a surveyor of the Kentucke territory, a leader of a small group of men tasked for the job. He is hardened by loss and the very nature of his work. It is interesting to see the change in him as he is drawn to Temperance Tucker, known as Tempe. She is every inch a frontier woman at home in the woods and very resourceful, unaware of her beauty, full of the loss four years earlier of her betrothed, James. She feels drawn to him too, really before she even likes him. There are many hardships of various kinds to endure before the book concludes. If you love great historical fiction, A Moonbow Night is sure to please. It is a story I'll remember.

What can I say? Laura Frantz hits another one out of the park. Why do I love Laura's books? Her characters are fresh, interesting, non-stereotypical, likable, and completely believable. They aren't perfect, they aren't two-dimensional, they are deep, rounded, and fascinating. Her settings are vivid. You journey with her characters, walking with them, seeing and touching and smelling what's all around them. You don't read one of Laura's books, you experience it. I can't quite put "A Moonbow Night" above my ultimate favorite of hers, "Courting Morrow Little." But it's close. Very close. Read it.

This book did take me a little while to get intoit didnt help that I wasnt feeling very well around the time I was reading it, so that could be the reason for it taking a little longer for me to get invested into the story. But once the story started to pick up, I was enjoying it a lot more :) I actually didnt really mind that it was slower-paced after a little while. I liked just getting to learn gradually about each of the characters past

This book alternated between two points of viewTempe Tucker and Sion Morgan. I really love it when books have switching points of view because I feel like you get to learn more about the characters that way! :) Some of my favorites were Tempe, Nate, and LucianSion was just an okay character to me, not one of my favorites, but still pretty good. Some I didnt care for were August Tucker, Paige, and Cornelius.

I wish I could write a better review and be a little more detailed with what I liked/disliked, but it has been a couple of weeks since I have read this so it is a little harder to recall everythingI will try in future though to write my reviews as soon as I finish the book :)
