Publisher's Description

After fleeing Virginia, Temperance Tucker and her family established an inn along the Shawnee River. It's a welcome way station for settlers and frontiersmen traveling through the wild Cumberland region of Kentucke--men like Sion Morgan, a Virginia surveyor who arrives at the inn with his crew looking for an experienced guide. When his guide appears, Sion balks. He certainly didn't expect a woman. But it is not long before he must admit that Tempe's skill in the wilderness rivals his own. Still, the tenuous tie they are forming is put to the test as they encounter danger after danger and must rely on each other.

With her signature sweeping style and ability to bring the distant past to vivid life, Laura Frantz beckons readers to join her in a land of Indian ambushes, conflicting loyalties, and a tentative love that meanders like a cool mountain stream.

What can I say? Laura Frantz hits another one out of the park. Why do I love Laura's books? Her characters are fresh, interesting, non-stereotypical, likable, and completely believable. They aren't perfect, they aren't two-dimensional, they are deep, rounded, and fascinating. Her settings are vivid. You journey with her characters, walking with them, seeing and touching and smelling what's all around them. You don't read one of Laura's books, you experience it. I can't quite put "A Moonbow Night" above my ultimate favorite of hers, "Courting Morrow Little." But it's close. Very close. Read it.

This book did take me a little while to get intoit didnt help that I wasnt feeling very well around the time I was reading it, so that could be the reason for it taking a little longer for me to get invested into the story. But once the story started to pick up, I was enjoying it a lot more :) I actually didnt really mind that it was slower-paced after a little while. I liked just getting to learn gradually about each of the characters past

This book alternated between two points of viewTempe Tucker and Sion Morgan. I really love it when books have switching points of view because I feel like you get to learn more about the characters that way! :) Some of my favorites were Tempe, Nate, and LucianSion was just an okay character to me, not one of my favorites, but still pretty good. Some I didnt care for were August Tucker, Paige, and Cornelius.

I wish I could write a better review and be a little more detailed with what I liked/disliked, but it has been a couple of weeks since I have read this so it is a little harder to recall everythingI will try in future though to write my reviews as soon as I finish the book :)

*I received a copy from Revell and the Baker Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review

I have to admit that I needed to read this story twice as I missed so much of the rich detail my first time through. "A Moonbow Night" is a captivating and riveting journey into the Cumberland region of Kentucke during the time of Daniel Boone. So much rich history that I knew absolutely nothing about! Google Search got a workout from me (smile), with the various fruits, plants, terms and such I had not heard of before. Fascinating.

Tempe Tucker can do just about anything she sets her mind to. She's brave and fiercely loyal, and nursing a deep heartache that she will likely take to her grave. She knows the woods of Kentucke like the back of her hand and can shoot better than most. Scion Morgan is a land surveyor whose aim is to lead his team through the wilderness to blaze a trail for future settlers, collect on his land grants and move on. Scion carries his own burdens of the heart that haunt him day and night. As Tempe finds herself the unlikely guide for Scion and his team, they begin to form a deep bond and respect that neither one was expecting.

Raw and honest, there is a heart-wrenching sweetness to this story that will dig in and not let go of you for awhile. Such was the case for this avid historical fiction reader!

I loved reading about this place and time, the mostly untamed wilderness of 1777 Kentucke. I loved the characters that Mz Frantz wrote about; Tempe Tucker, Sion Morgan, Nate, Aylee, Paige, Russell, all come to life beautifully. The part I like best truly, though, is the descriptions of the setting. The flora and fauna, the sights and smells, all bring this story vibrantly to life.

There are several historical people, such as Daniel Boone, and places mentioned in this historical fiction and that combined with the rich descriptions of setting really bring to life a time and place that I am not very familiar with. I love learning as I read a story! The one thing that bothered me somewhat was the high number of words that I am totally unfamiliar with and made me stop and look them up. Too many. A glossary would have helped, or just a little bit more help with what is that? while the story is told.

Being a history lover, I enjoy books set in the past as it gives me some insight as to life during that time period. I enjoyed reading about Temperance Tucker's life and how she was able to defend herself on the Kentucky frontier. I don't know that I could have been as rugged as she was and been able to survive during that time. I enjoyed seeing the story play out between her and Sion and how they learned to get around each other's pasts.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but the review is my own.
