Publisher's Description

After his departure from New York two years ago to meet up with his almost-fiancée, Zayne Beckett is the last person Agatha Watson wanted to stumble upon in her travels as a reporter with the New York Tribune. Quite pathetically bedraggled, he clearly needs to be taken in hand and sent back East to his family. Although she no longer has feelings for him, Agatha realizes, by hook or by crook, she'll have to be the one to get the obstinate man home.

Zayne has no desire to be taken anywhere and is prepared to drag his heels all the way home... until he finds himself slipping back into the familiar banter of his former friendship with Agatha. Once they arrive in New York, Zayne realizes Agatha's determined nose for news has earned her a few enemies, and he hopes to repay her help with some help of his own. When she rebuffs all his attempts to prove himself a knight in shining armor, the lengths to which they'll go to win this battle of wills lead to some memorable antics.

Everyone else may think them a match, but nothing could be further from the truth--until Agatha finds herself in real trouble. Have these two stubborn, too-smart-for-their-own-good people been meant for each other all along?

If you have not read any of Jean Turanos' books, you have missed a real treat. This is the last in a series but even if you have not read the others you will still enjoy this book. Just strong, independent ladies of the Gilded age and such writing! Don't hesitate to begin the adventure with this series today.

A Match of Wits is the fourth book in Jen Turanos Ladies of Distinction series, coming after A Change of Fortune, A Most Peculiar Circumstance, and A Talent for Trouble. I have absolutely loved every single book in this series, and A Match of Wits is no exception! Jen always does a fantastic job of weaving together hilarious and adventurous tales with just the perfect amount of romance and Jesus, so I knew I would love this book from the beginning. I have yet to be disappointed with one of her novels, and am usually actually somehow taken by surprise when they continually get better and better.

Agatha Watson is such a wonderful character! She has so much passion for her writing and always telling the truth through the stories she composes, even though her pursuit of such stories usually lands her in far too many scrapes. That makes for continuously hilarious, and suspenseful, situations, which involve quite a few different people who have to come to her rescue. One of my favoritesother than Zayne of courseis Mr. Blackheart, her bodyguard. He was just so funny, even though he didnt try to be, and I loved watching him come around, from being irritated by Agathas escapades to actually considering her a friend. Which was a good decision for him because Agatha is the best type of person to have around.

Zayne Beckett irritated me a little bit at the beginning of this novel, because of the way he let himself go after his accident and the way things went down with Helena, but I had already loved him from the beginning, so I couldnt stay mad at him long. He is a wonderful man, although a little misguided when it comes to women, and does have good intentions at heart.

All in all, I really loved this book, and Im so glad Ive finally been able to finish this series, although I wish it didnt have to come to an end! Jen did a fantastic job of writing four amazing novels that were completely captivating from day one, and Im already looking forward to reading them again! I highly recommend this series, and I suggest you keep an eye out for Finding Margo, which releases in November, and Behind the Scenes, which releases in April!

This is the book # 4 in the Ladies of Distinction series. This is a love story that takes you back into time, 1883 time period. It is about Agatha and Zayne and their love/hate relationship. Agatha is a hard nosed reporter for the New York Tribune and is required to travel for her job. In her travels she runs into Zayne after not seeing each other for years. She realizes that she may still have feelings for Zayne. Zayne resents Agatha trying to take him back home with her. Will he go or stay in the world he has created for himself?

I would recommend this story for anyone that wants a fun read, it has humor, friendship, love and an adventure to go back into time. It is a great afternoon read on a summers day. I really enjoyed this book and would be interested to go back and read the first books in the series.

Match of Wits is a great read when you need a relaxing break from the hecticness of the world. It is a funny, light read that keeps you entertained. There is a pig that does not want to be called a P-I-G, trouble around every corner and a romance included. Jen Turano is known for her quirky , fun stories and she does not disappoint. I continue to look forward to reading her work.

I recieved this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.

Since this book was the fourth one in a series and having not read the previous ones, it seemed kind of long. I appreciated the pig Matilda and some of the funny lines that would unexpectantly crop up between characters, but there didnt seem to be a lot of action to the story. I realize it is a romance mainly between Agatha and Zayne, but outside of them there were parts without much to keep me glued to the pages.

Both Agatha and Zayne appeared self-centered and perhaps that was the authors intent to have readers come away disliking that character trait. I wonder too how a female author can write about the internal thoughts and struggles of a male character and while not always completing the thoughts in the novel, the audience couldnt help but complete them. Brothels could have been shown more for the disgusting and oppressive businesses that they are instead of seeming to be acceptable in the book.

All reviews no matter who writes them are subjective in nature. Some loved this book and others not quite so much. While I appreciate the opportunity to read another novel, it just seemed to lack the adventure and intensity that I want to captivate my attention when I open a book. I loved the humorous parts because I love to laugh and would rate the book higher if there was more adventure than there seemed to be.

I hope the author keeps writing, but adds more action, adventure and intensity in her future novels.
