4.5 stars for this historical romance western. As I'm not overly keen on Westerns in general, this is one I would generally not have picked up, but due to a mix-up at the publishers, I received this book instead of a book I was supposed to help launch (I did eventually get the correct book, but was told to just keep and enjoy this one as well), so I decided I ought to read it. This was my first book by Mary Connealy, but won't be my last. This was an enjoyable story about Falcon Hunt, who learned he had inherited part of a ranch in Wyoming after the death of the father he never knew and had assumed long dead. Having nothing to lose, he goes to check out this ranch and comes upon some misadventures along the way. Cheyenne Brewster is furious with the no-account "sidewinder" who swindled her ma out of her property and left her family's ranch to his 3 sons upon his death, cheating her out of her inheritance altogether. When those sons show up to make their claims, she clings to her fury and never expects to fall for one of them. This book had a great story-line, wonderful characters, a solid mystery (or 2 or 3), good humor and a sweet romance. Though the romance moved too fast, in my opinion, it was important to the story-line, so I don't hold too much against that. While this is book 2 in the series, it does stand alone. While there were times I thought I should maybe know more about Kevin (the hero of book 1 and one of the other brothers), I never actually felt lost or confused. And I do plan to go back and read book 1 as well (just put it on hold at the library) to help fill in any blanks. All in all, this was an enjoyable read and I would recommend to fans of historical romance, particularly western. Special thanks to Bethany House Publishers for an advance copy of this book (even if it was accidental). I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Falcon Hunt, one of the three Hunt brothers introduced in Book 1, Braced for Love. Falcon meets Cheyenne Brewster when he shows up with Kevin Hunt at the ranch their pa left them. Falcon is a man of few words and would rather be in the woods hunting and tracking then around people. In the first book he is injured to the point of amnesia so this story picks up from there. Together Falcon and Cheyenne work to get his memory back and find out who is "hunting" them. A Man With A Past is full of humor, suspense, intrigue, plot twists and romance. I can't wait to read book three which will be Wyatt and Molly's story.

This book covers some of the same ground as book 1--mostly that relevant to Falcon's amnesia, which is helpful if you haven't read book 1, or if it has been long enough to forget some of the salient details. If you've just read book 1, it may be tempting to skim the first couple chapters.

As Falcon was a might taciturn before losing his memory in book 1, he's the brother we knew almost nothing about, so it was fun to finally learn his story. It's funny how he is almost the opposite of Cheyenne--he's as calm and steady as they come, while she's (presently) a quivering bundle of rage--and yet they're really similar too. Both are highly skilled, especially in tracking and knowing the land, and they respect each other's skills; it draws them together.

While they do a good job weeding out the bad guys in this book, I have some strong suspicions about one villain who has largely slipped their notice. I'm excited to see how it all goes down in the next book with Molly (who I've been most intrigued by since book 1) and Wyatt.

Thank you Bethany House and NetGalley for the complimentary e-book; I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions are my own.

Falcon's story continues in the second installment of The Brothers in Arms Series. After getting shot Falcon awakens with no memories of his former life or the current situation, as he and his brothers fight to protect their inheritance from the father they barely knew. As the memories flicker back, it makes him question what kind of man he was and what it means for his future.

I was thrilled to get the opportunity to read this book, after devouring the first book in the series about Kevin and Win. Fraught with danger, rollicking adventure, and a fantastic cast of characters. I would definitely recommend reading the series in order to make more sense of the backstory, and the more than a little confusing family relations.

Falcon is a resourceful man, who has lived off the land, he's okay with being a loner, I admired his faith and how he holds himself to a high standard. Cheyenne has spent her life working the land that she loves only to be cut out of the will, and is upset to have her birthright stolen from her. She begrudgingly admires Falcon's skills in the wilderness, and how he doesn't back down from a fight, letting him befriend her as she begins to see what a kind and noble man he is.

An action packed read with Connealy's signature humor, a fast paced plot filled with mystery, danger, outlaws and dialogue crackling with chemistry and humor. I loved that the timeline of this story overlaps with that of the previous story, and continues to follow Kevin and Win. I can't wait to read Wyatt's story and find out what is really going on behind all the mysterious attacks.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A Man with a Past is the sequel to Braced for Love and another great book by Mary Connealy in the Brothers in Arms series. It takes place in Wyoming on a rather large ranch that, through the will of Clovis Hunt, three men inherit only to discover that they are brothers. This book focuses more on Falcon Hunt, the brother from Tennessee, but Wyatt and Kevin are a part of the story as well.

Falcon Hunt grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, living off the land and the forest providing most of their meat. He did not go to school because of the distance from a town and he lived with his mother and then his wife who later died. He willingly traveled to Wyoming when he got the word that he had inherited something called a ranch.

Cheyenne Brewster lives on His Rolling Hills, a very large ranch with her half-brother, Wyatt. She is not happy about these brothers and them coming to take her portion of the ranch. Her temper allowed her to fly off the handle and ask questions later.

We learn about the troubles Falcon had on his trip to Wyoming and his version of what transpired after his arrival, which further explained the incidents from Book One and his amnesia. The same is true for the experiences that Cheyenne had during that time frame. The book then picks up and the family has more adventures of somebody trying to make their life more complicated. It seems that there was still a plot to rid the brothers of their lives.

It was a fast-paced novel with many twists and turns that made it a hard novel to put down. If you like cowboys, a little romance, and a well-developed plot, then I highly recommend this book. I cannot wait for the third book.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. #AManWithAPast #BrothersInArms #MaryConnealy
