When Lyndie James, Jake's childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion's reluctance to run.
Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake's will, Lyndie's sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he's built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he'd thought he'd lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?

I wanted to read Jake's story about PTSD. I did like what the author was saying about Jake's struggle with PTSD and his nightmares. That gave us a look into the world of PTSD. This author just kept saying the same thing over and over. I read something on one page and on the next page she said the exact same thing. I made myself finish it. The story dragged on and on and it was 4 or 5 chapters too long. The last few chapters I just read the same thing that I had been reading throughout the whole book. Repeats.
Loraine5 Stars Out Of 5My favorite book by this author so far.June 14, 2017LoraineQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This story now takes top billing in all of the stories that I have read by this author. I absolutely loved it. I really like the way this author takes tough issues and writes love stories with hope surrounding them. In this book, Jake struggles with PTSD and Lyndie has a sister with a disability. Both of them struggle with these issues but love gets them through. Full Review at my website.

Crystal5 Stars Out Of 5Model Love Story!May 10, 2017CrystalQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0After an IED explosion scars not only Jake Porter's face but also his soul after his comrades are killed, he withdraws from everyone around him when he returns home to recover. Choosing to pour himself into his work on Whispering Creek Ranch, Jake makes a name for himself as one of the best horse trainers in the country. When Lyndie James, Jake's best friend from childhood, returns to their hometown looking for work, she and Jake reconnect when he hires her to exercise his horses. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a majestic thoroughbred that has resisted racing and that he hopes Lyndie can coax into running. As Lyndie and Jake's interactions increase at the horse farm, they both find that their connection is as strong as it was when they were children, and slowly but surely, Lyndie begins to break through to Jake's sullen heart. When Lyndie expresses that she wants more than friendship from him, at first Jake refuses her advances feeling that he is "broken" and not good enough for her. But with patience and gentle love, Lyndie finds that in actuality Jake's love for her runs deeper than the oceans.
This has by far been my favorite book in Wade's Porter Family series! Readers can't help but be drawn to Jake's dark and lonely heart as he struggles with his self-worth and his feelings for Lyndie. The fierceness at which he loves and protects her will take your breath away. In comparison, Lyndie's patience, consistency, and unwavering belief in Jake shows him that he is worthy and deserves to be loved. Jake and Lyndie's love story, to me, is a perfect example of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 in action!

JaquelynAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5SO, SO, GOOD!February 10, 2016JaquelynAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5If you have read any of Becky Wades books, then you know this one is going to be good. A Love Like Ours is the third book in the Porter Family series. The first two books, Undeniably Yours and Meant to Be Mine, follow the oldest two Porter brothers. A Love Like Ours follows Jake. You dont have to read the first two books in this series, but who doesnt enjoy reading about hunky guys and the girls they fall for? I would totally recommend you read them, because if you dont, you are missing out of some of my absolute favorite books. Wade writes her characters with real feelings we can all relate to. I couldnt put this book down, and finished it in less than 24 hours.
Since Jake has returned from war he hasnt been the same. Things happened over there that he wishes he could change. He is the trainer of Whisper Creek and is good at what he does. But his brokenness is easy for everyone to see. When Lyndie moves back to Texas he knows hes going to eventually run into her, but he isnt in a hurry. When she shows up asking for a job, he doesnt want to risk seeing her everyday, but his brother Bo has other plans. Lyndie is good at what she does, and they have an opening she would fill perfectly. Spending time with her is good for Jake, but can he let her help him? Or will he push her away like he does everyone else?
This was a great story of how love can over come all. Love doesnt mean life will be perfect, but it sure helps get you through some things. I love the Porter family and all of their friends. I cant wait to read the next book in the series knowing it will be amazing! Obviously I am a Becky Wade fan, and know that after reading this you will be too. Those that fight for our freedom dont always come back free. And I appreciate how Wade brought to light what a lot of our service men and women go through when they return home. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction. I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
