Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I live in a small town outside of Charleston, SC where I teach and volunteer.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I loved the book Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers years ago that was a modern retelling of the book of Hosea. I felt the Lord wanted me to write a modern retelling of the book of Ruth.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I pray that my readers will understand the incredible love Jesus has for us. I hope they will relate to the deep issues that the Christians in this novel have to work through.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I believe that if the writer is not crying or laughing when she's writing, neither will the reader. The Lord Jesus taught me so much of His love through these characters.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  My favorite authors are Dekker, Peretti, and Francine Rivers. I wanted to write an edgy book, but at the same time, the sweetness of the love story be the engine through all the twists and turns.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  My great grandfather- my main character bears his name- was very close to me. He modeled to me how to love Jesus and His family. He took care of his mentally ill wife for most of his 100 years. He said taking care of her was the greatest honor of his life. Their love story moved me. I wanted to honor his memory with this book.
