This review was written for A Letter from Lancaster County - eBook.
Family relationships can go through many changes over the years. One person remembers life in a certain way and another person remembers a completely different story. In this special story of family ties, trust and love and forgiveness are all explored through words and thoughts of each character. A great story full of heart felt emotions.

Honestly, I had my ups and downs with this.

    The Good:

I've read hundreds of books in my life and I can spot quality writing from the get-go, this was one of those that I found myself happily turning pages. Kate Lloyd can pen a great story and keep me invested. This promised a reconciliation between two sisters and their Mennonite aunt after their mom's passing, and perhaps a chance to dig deeper in family history. There were a few surprises that unfolded as the story progressed. I enjoyed aunt Sylvia, her wisdom, positive outlook, and how her faith played out in her life. Glenn was a good man who's future is yet undecided, does he want to be baptized in the Amish faith or live as the English? He's an honorable, honest and wholesome kind of hero.

    The Bad:

Unfortunately, there's where things started downhill for me. Angela is an un-happily married woman with two children and acts like she's not married at all. Her thoughts towards Glenn are not pure or appropriate and made me uncomfortable to read. Marriagehappy or notis still sacred and holy before the Lord and shouldn't be portrayed as anything but. I would expect to read this in a secular book, but certainly not in a Christian one. I had to finally put this down about 2/3 of the way through and not finish it. I think if there was a more redemptive feel to Angela and her turning away from this, I'd have enjoyed reading it more. I know life is messy and I don't shy away from messy in a book as long as it's done with grace and reconciliation with God. The other thing in general, was the lack of an overall redemptive quality throughout the story. It left me unsatisfied as a reader and disappointed because it's what I long for in a Christian novel.

That being said, I have no qualms with the quality of writing or the storyline. I'd recommend reading it for yourself and make your own judgment call. This book just didn't do it for me. I will, however, look forward to Starting From Scratch in the Spring of 2018!

*I did receive a complimentary digital copy of this book, however, I borrowed this from my library and was under no obligation to leave a review. *

    A Letter From Lancaster County ( Lancaster Discoveries-Book 1 )

    By; Kate Lloyd

A Letter From Lancaster County is book one and the start of a new series , Lancaster Discoveries. This is not your Amish Novel , it is Contemporary. The story flows well and the characters are well developed. Kate Lloyd weaves a story about two sisters that are difference from each other. Angela is married and a mother, but she is not happy with her life. Rose is single and wishes to have what Angela has. A letter comes from their aunt in Lancaster County and wants them to come to see her. I could see Angela and Rose changing throughout the story. Memories of their mom unfolds . Can these sisters lives changes through this trip? What will happen to them? This was a very touching story and I recommend it .

I was given a complimentary copy of this book ,but was not told that I had to give a positive review.

In Kate Lloyd's newest novel, the Amish play a minor role. The book features two sisters who travel east to visit an ailing aunt after their mother died. Events amplify their differences and the pain of their past. Can the two overcome their struggles to forge a loving relationship or will they always be in competition? I have to say that I didn't care too much for either sister, but my sympathies lay with Rose. I don't wish to read about a married woman contemplating forsaking her marriage, as Angela did, although I admit the story seemed quite realistic, unfortunately. I'm glad I persevered to reach the redemptive conclusion. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

A Letter From Lancaster County , what a doosy of a sibling strife story, and yet they don't want to really want to admit how bad - and in a way they don't consciously know themselves-neither are totally happy with their life as it is - Angela is overwhelmed at home - maybe secretly she had her sisters easy single life (yeah right) and Rose wishes she had the loving family life her sister has (yeah right) - everything always looks greener don't they folks? They get the chance, after receiving a letter from their Aunt in Amish country to go to Lancaster- but what little did they know how majorly their lives would change - is it good or is it bad? Do they invite GOD to help them in their lives? Do they have JESUS in their hearts? you must find out these secrets and all the other secrets and boy are there other major secrets - for yourselves when you get this book. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.
