Tammie5 Stars Out Of 5A Husband's Christmas PrayerDecember 17, 2016TammieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I was first introduced to Kathi Macias through her inspiratonal book, Beyond Me, and was impressed with her provocative and inspirational writing style as she discussed the importance of living an unselfish life that is of value to the Lord and to those whom He puts in our lives.
I began to seek out her books and was rewarded with the discovery of Obsession, the first installment in her Matthews and Matthews Mystery Series. Although I was already a fan of her writing, I was surprised at how much love I felt for the characters and plot of this fictional work, and found myself wanting to reread the 3-book series again and again!
Since then, I have read several more of Kathi's books, and have always enjoyed them very much. Her latest Christmas story, A Husband's Christmas Prayer, invites the reader into the home of a pastor and his family as they enter the holiday season in a new town, home, and church. It is the story of a man and woman of God who find themselves facing a crisis in their marriage, a subtle dark cloud that threatens to kill the joy of their young family at a time when they really should be celebrating the opportunities God has given to them. The hand of God, however, is so pronounced throughout the book that one suspects, even from the very start, that their Heavenly Father is present and will rescue them.
This book left me with a renewed desire to live a life of prayer. As in all of Kathi Macias' books, prayer is a constant and steadfast anchor that the characters hold onto and it is always shown as the most important aspect of a Christian's life. That is one of the reasons I love her books so much, and recommend them so highly. If you're looking for a seasonal read that will boost your spirits and help to bring you closer to the Savior, A Husband's Christmas Prayer is definitely the book for you! -
Cassandra WesselPennsylvaniaAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Sweet Christmas StorySeptember 14, 2016Cassandra WesselPennsylvaniaAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Pastor Paul Michaelson just received the dream position of his pastoral career. Of course, he accepted the senior pastor position. Certainly his wife Diana would be thrilled to move from the moisture laden seaside climate to the sunny desert. For some baffling reason, she wasnt, but being a dutiful wife, she went along, albeit with an internal struggle. Once at their new church home, the two children, a boy Micah, and his older sister, Lizzie adjusted fairly well. Still, something nibbled at their peace. Neither parent could put their finger on what niggled in the back of their heads. What was it?
Throughout this short Christmas story, Kathi Macias takes the reader along into the life of a pastor and his family, complete with twists and turns. The ring of the telephone, or doorbell, can bring unexpected challenges into a pastors life, often at the expense of his or her family.
In this tale, Kathi Macias recounts the life of the parsonage with accuracy and compassion. If anyone ever wanted to know what its like to be a pastor, or a pastors wife, this book certainly gives the reader a behind-the-scenes peek.
This is a gentle book with an occasional challenge that does keep the reader flipping pages. A clean story without violence or immorality, this book fits well within the CBA market guidelines. If it were a TV movie, it would be G rated. This is a refreshingly spotless, moral story that anyone can read. As a reviewer, I highly recommend this story for anyone who wants a respite from the mayhem and immorality that plagues our society these days. You wont be disappointed with this book.
I received "A Husband's Christmas Prayer" from the publisher and am under no obligation to provide a positive review, but how couldn't I? It's such a sweet story. -
Fitzysmom4 Stars Out Of 5Review from Rambles of a SAHMOctober 28, 2016FitzysmomQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4A Husband's Christmas Prayer is my first Christmas book of the season and I am so excited. Granted it's still in the upper 80s around here and October may seem too soon to dive in but for me it's just perfect.
Each year I look forward to Kathi Macias' Christmas book. I think I've read all of her past seasonal novellas and thoroughly enjoyed them. This year's edition was another delight. The main characters are Paul and Diana Michaelson. When we first meet them Paul has just accepted a Senior Pastor position in the tiny community of Desert Sands. Unfortunately Paul got all caught up in the "we are one" aspect of marriage and forgot to include Diana in the discussion. Diana is a wonderful wife and she set aside her reticence to follow her husband. But the hurt ran deep and eventually it just had to be dealt with.
I particularly enjoyed the use of Ephesians 5:21-33 in the storyline. Pastor Paul preached a sermon on it that was meant to encourage his flock. But God is so gracious that he used Paul's own message to speak to his heart.
Another of my favorite things about this novel was the supporting characters. Virginia and Mitchell are beautiful examples to each of us as we get older. Until you breath your last God has a plan for you. The McDonald family reminds us to be aware of those around us that aren't in our usual circles. After all the Bible instructs us that we are blessed to be a blessing.
Now for all of you that are still saying that it's too early for a Christmas book, let me say that the majority of this book has nothing to do with Christmas. The culmination of the story is on Christmas but the heart of the narrative takes place in the months leading up to it. You literally can read this book at any time of year and be moved by it. I heartily recommend it to all.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
