Tell us a little about yourself. I have been a professional writer for over 20 years. My children's book(s) are a ministry to both unsaved children and those whose families chose to celebrate American holidays with the icons they are known for. My husband and I have been in evangelical ministry together since 1994, through Dove Ministries (Sarasota, FL). I've worked with children since graduating college in education (1975), including 15 years with Boys & Girls Clubs across the U.S.
What was your motivation behind this project? Our nation is moving away from its Christian roots. More and more, children who recognize Santa or celebrate halloween have never heard of Jesus Christ. My books are created to make them ask, "Who is this Jesus?" They are also written to help Christian parents who wish to include Santa in Christmas or celebrate with Easter eggs or Halloween traditions to keep the focus on Jesus in their family gatherings and holiday celebrations. Jesus is the reason for Christmas and Easter, and should be a focus throughout the year, every day, in all we do.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I am hoping parents, grandparents and greatparents can use my witness books to focus on Jesus Christ during the busy holidays, and to reach out to children who are unsaved with the salvation message that God loves them and senthis Son, Jesus, to save them from the consequences of their sins. Each book has a salvation prayer that children can repeat with the reader. I had a child give her heart to Jesus with that prayer in our first book tour just a month ago (November 2012) and I'm expecting that to happen often as we continue to tour with this books.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? This project was a labor of love for my children, who are now grown adults. It is dedicated to them and their children. The story was given by God as a very special gift fo me over 15 years prior to being published. God sent a messenger in 2011 to tell me it was time to publish A Gift for Santa, and opened the doors over the next 5 months to make it happen. He has shown me that walking in faith, all things are possible.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I love Shakespeare, Dickens and, of course, Clement Moore, but my greatest inspiration comes directly from God's living Word...the book of Life...the Bible.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: A Gift for Santa is for children of all ages and their families. From 3-year-olds to 90 year-olds, the story is truly for everyone. The beautiful artwork, by Gary Sanchez holds the eye of even the youngest listener. The story, that will make you laugh and cry has the depth that engages every heart in the true meaning of Christmas and how God loves us so much that he gave his only son to come into the world for us. The miracle that happens to Dolly at the end of the book will stay in your heart forever!
