Product Description

For many Americans raised in the church, retaining the beliefs they once learned is no longer possible. Challenged both by encountering other world religions and philosophies and experiencing the everyday challenges of suffering, illness, and poverty, many cradle-Christians can no longer adhere to the doctrines they learned in Sunday School. Tom Stella offers a workable, everyday Christian faith for adults, a faith based on mystery rather than doctrinal rigidity, centered on thoughtful contemplation rather than simplistic theology. Through the narrative device of the Baltimore Catechism, Stella takes us through the various aspects of faith and his own journey from what he once believed because he was told to what he now believes in his soul to be true. Each chapter ends with a series of meditative thoughts to help readers apply the beliefs to their own lives. Stella calls us back to the roots of the Christian faith--to a faith that is thoughtful, all-pervasive, and based on the recognition that God is mystery. Accessible and pastoral, A Faith Worth Believing offers a new way of thinking for the average Christians who find themselves asking some tough questions about the faith they've sought all their lives.
