Booklover105 Stars Out Of 5Perfect book for the start of summerJune 6, 2016Booklover10Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Shelley Shepard Gray is one of my go-to authors in Amish fiction. I have not been disappointed by her yet, and I honestly never expect to be disappointed by her.
I did not realize that I had missed the first book in this series. Usually I stay on top of her releases, but one slipped by me. With that said, I was curious if I would know what was happening in this book without having read book 1. I never felt like big holes were missing in characters or in the storyline because I hadn't read book 1. Although, I have already bought book 1 because I didn't want to miss out on this series.
Jacob was a man whom I greatly admired. He gave up so much just to come and help his parents. I couldn't help but really like Lukas and his story. I love that Rachel followed her dreams and was ultimately given a blessing over her wish to follow her dreams. A relationship with Jacob was never a part of the plan--and definitely not any sort of love relationship.
I wouldn't say this book is full of twists and turns. However, it's the style that it's written in that makes it a book to grab after a long day. It's an easy read that is just perfect for summer. I absolutely cannot wait to read book 3 soon! First I have to finish book 1 though!
I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity Group in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
Becky Biddy5 Stars Out Of 5A Readers DreamJune 6, 2016Becky BiddyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Shelley Shepard Gray immediately grabs your heart in the first chapter of book two "A Daughter's Dream" of The Charmed Amish Life series. Readers are blessed to read more about the Kinsinger family. Rebecca Kinsinger is currently working at the Kinsinger Lumber Mill and has recently had the opportunity to volunteer at the Amish school house. Rebecca has always dreamed of becoming a school teacher. Meanwhile, there are new comers to town, Jacob Yoder and his niece Lilly who are brought together by unfortunate circumstances. Will Rebecca's dreams of becoming a school teacher transpire? Will Jacob and Lilly adjust to not only life in a new town but their new found relationship? Read Shelley Shepard Gray's "A Daughter's Dream to find out. I was provided an advanced readers copy for my honest review of this book.
Nicole-H5 Stars Out Of 5Holding on to a DreamJune 5, 2016Nicole-HQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The second installment of the Charmed Amish Life brings the story of Rebecca Kinsinger and Jacob Yoder, a new man in town. Becky has dreams of being a teacher, and Jacob is struggling as a new parent to his young teenaged niece, Lilly. Though drawn to each other, neither is sure of the path that they should take.
Rebecca has been working for her brother Lukas in the family business, but she is very sure that she wants to be a teacher. She is given the opportunity to help out at the local school and quickly becomes discouraged when things do not go as she has anticipated. One good thing does come out of her time at the school: she meets 13-year-old Lilly and her handsome uncle Jacob.
Jacob was working as a carpenter in Florida, but moved to Charm to take on the role of father when his brother and sister-in-law are killed in an accident. Lilly, his niece, is not only grieving her parents and trying to adjust to a new town but also having problems in school. Jacob also knows that he is not cut out to be a farmer, but he is trying to make the best of the situation.
In addition to the developing attraction between Rebecca and Jacob, there is the innocent friendship that Lilly and one of her classmates begin. Friendships can start in the most unlikely places at times, and everyone needs understanding friends.
This story reminds us that while dreams are good, sometimes we shouldn't hold on to them too tightly because God has something much more than we could have imagined waiting for us.
Shelly Shepard Gray has not disappointed me in the second book in this series. I enjoyed reading A Daughter's Dream (I could hardly put it down), and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lorraine AAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A Daughter's DreamJune 5, 2016Lorraine AAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Rebecca Kinsinger has been working with her brother Lukas at the family mill since the death of their father. That, however, is not where her heart was. She has always wanted to be a teacher.
Rebeccas friend Rachel was the school teacher and, one day while filling in for Rachel, Rebecca realized that keeping twenty-five scholars in check was not an easy task. Rachel returned from her appointment and gained control of the classroom once again. She made it look so easy! At the end of the day a shy little girl and her Uncle walked into the classroom. Lilly Yoder, orphaned by an accident, moved to Charm from Berlin to live with her grandparents and Uncle Jacob. Jacob moved to Charm from Pinecraft, FL after the death of his brother to help care for his thirteen year old niece he barely knew.
This is the second book in The Charmed Amish Life series. Youll want to read all about Lillys life in Charm. Does Rebecca give up her dream of teaching in favor of her loyalty to family? Is teaching still Rebeccas dream after spending some time in the classroom?
A Daughters Dream is yet another well written book by one of my favorite authors and I cant wait to read A Sisters Wish in September! Thank you Shelley for another wonderful read!!!!
