crtnybcBritish Columbia, CanadaAge: 35-44Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5The cover drew me in but the story is ho humNovember 15, 2018crtnybcBritish Columbia, CanadaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 2Wendy moves to Seaside, Maine, to fix up the cottage she's inherited and hopefully get her feet back under her. She has a 12 year old son, who is not doing well since his father died, and he's super excited by the prospect of moving there. He doesn't know that it's supposed to be temporary, and Wendy doesn't get around to really telling him, although it is, of course, a big emotional problem in the story. The setting sounds lovely, the plot is sweet, and the story is quite light and fluffy. I found myself wishing for more substance in this cute little book.

Super duper small print!2 Stars Out Of 5Big jumpsNovember 11, 2018Super duper small print!Quality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 1Every year, I look forward to Melody Carlson's Christmas novellas. They've always been fun to read. They are not long novels and would be much better described as novellas. This story made a big jump at the end as if the author was rushing through the end. I always want to savor the ending of a book so this was quite disappointing to me.
Teresa5 Stars Out Of 5Great Thanksgiving/Christmas read.November 3, 2018TeresaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a feel good book. It lets you into the heart of a teenager dealing with loss. Is he the one who holds things together? Sometimes you wonder. Melody once again brings to the front what really matters, love, faith, trust, family and commitment, plus you witness God in action throughout the pages of this great book.

ButterflyreviewAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Christmas by the SeaOctober 28, 2018ButterflyreviewAge: 55-65Gender: femaleWhen Wendy Harper inherits her family's beachside cottage in Seaside, Maine, she sees it as a way to finally pay off the debts that have mounted since her husband died. But before it can be sold, the neglected property must be renovated. She and her 12-year-old son Jackson move in--temporarily, she reminds him--in order to do the work themselves, even though Christmas is coming. The charming town, along with local craftsman Caleb Colton, pulls on both Wendy and Jackson, who even registers himself for school in a bid to get his mom to move them there permanently. Wendy knows that the most responsible thing to do is to sell the cottage and return to Ohio, but the lure of the sea is hard to resist.
This is a very heartwarming story about a single mother, Wendy, trying to survive the aftermath of her husbands death. All she wants to do is whats best for her son. She thinks its fixing up the cottage and selling it. Jackson, her son, has other ideas. He wants to stay and does everything in his power to make it happen. Then there's Caleb. He also wants Wendy to stay.
I could see this as a Hallmark Christmas movie. It's a feel good book with a happy ending.
