Have you ever wanted to be chosen, wanted, or loved? In the colorfully illustrated, hardcover children's story, Audrey Bunny, by Angie Smith, you'll meet and adorable little stuffed bunny who struggles with those very same desires.

Seemingly overlooked time and again at the local toy shop, Bunny wonders her fate in the big brown barrel. The little mark she bears, front and center, must be the cause of her not being chosen. No one wants to love a Bunny with a flaw. If only she could hide the mark, maybe then someone would want to take her home.

That days comes when a little girl, Caroline, chooses Bunny and names her Audrey, taking her home as a very special and treasured birthday gift. Audrey Bunny takes care to try and obscure her mark from Caroline, not wanting it to affect the love she feels and cherishes. But one day Audrey Bunny must go to school for Show and Tell. How will she hide her mark there? What will the other children think when they see Caroline's imperfect friend? Fear, anxiety, and dread flood Audrey Bunny's mind and heart, but in the end all is well. Caroline has known all along that Audrey has a spot and she loves her just the same.

Angie Smith has done a lovely job creating a book that can speak volumes into a little person's life. This book reminds us that we are created with a purpose and while we may differ one from another, we are all special and worthy of love. The author includes a page at the end of the book, where parents can interact with their child, asking questions and encouraging character growth.

This is Angie's first children's book and it was interesting to see her penmanship in this area. It all starts from the story of Angie's girl, Audrey Caroline (names used in the book) who was diagnosed early on and was said she will not live outside the womb. She did live, however, for about two hours. Her birthday is April 7th (date used in the book). This is the background.

For those familiar with the story and the early days of Angie's blog (Bring the Rain), then the bunny is familiar too. It was Angie's way of explaining her three daughters what was happening to Audrey - it was a boo-boo. The bunny really existed and so was the mark on its heart. Using this, the author turned this personal experience into a reminder for all: we are loved by God, no matter how not-so-perfect we think we are. It stresses (indirectly) on how each of us is unique and wonderfully made by God.

It was designed for children, yes, but after I read it today, with the mind of an adult, I can say that it's a sweet reminder of God's love, God's acceptance, God's creativity, all revolving our lives. I dare say that adults need this kind of books every once in a while.

A mention must be made here about the illustrations; they are lovely, they are gorgeous, they capture the spirit of the book so well. Breezy Brookshire is the illustrator of the book and she did a fantastic job.

One thing that I really liked about this book is the Discussion Guide at the end. Children are also encouraged to be active and write a letter to themselves from God, writing how they think God thinks about them and sees them, based on Psalm 119:73 and Genesis 1. There are also a few questions parents can go through with they children. It's a great discussion starting point of topics like these.

This is a wonderful book for young and old alike. Beautifully illustrated by Breezy Brookshire, Angie Smith tells a story that is sure to be loved by all. Audrey Bunny had lived in a barrel of other stuffed toys in a toy shop, but was never chosen because of her mark. However, a sweet little girl named Caroline spots Audrey and comes back the next day to buy her as her own special cuddly friend. Audrey treasures the time spent playing with Caroline, yet is always careful to find a way to conceal her mark. Finally, the day arrives when Caroline announces that Audrey will be attending school with her for something called "Show 'N Tell"!! Oh no! Audrey's worst fears are about to be faced as she realizes that there will be no hiding her mark from Caroline and her friends. Is she about to be rejected again?

This is a book that can be used both to help a child who fears rejection and to teach children about loving others even though they may appear to be a bit different. Even when the scars are not visible, reassurance of a Creator who loves us just the way we are is a valuable lesson for all to learn. There is also a Parent's Section with activities & Scripture to use. I highly recommend this book.

From the cover to the very end, this beautiful book will enchant. The artistry is compelling, soft, delicate, warm, and happy. Just right for a children's picture story book. Illustrator Breezy Brookshire has truly captured the essence of author Angie Smith's delightful tale of a little girl and a bunny.

In a shop there is a barrel of stuffed toys ready to be purchased by children and adults. One is a bunny that is constantly being bypassed for the other toys. You see, bunny is flawed. He has a spot on his chest. But bunny's hope is that someone will want to love him anyway.

There is a delightful little girl and she and her mommy go shopping in the shop. The little girl looked right at bunny and even said something to her mommy, but they left. Bunny thinks it is because he has a spot on his chest. But another day, Caroline (the little girl) and her mommy return and Caroline picks bunny up by the ears and says, "I want this one." She also names the bunny, Audrey. Love began to grow in bunny for Caroline and Caroline began to love bunny. And the story continues sweetly on.

What is so delightful about the book is that it helps children see and realize that each of us is different in some way - each has some type of flaw - and each can be loved just as we are. God has made us all different.

"I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well." Psalm 139:14

If you have ever fallen in love with the story of the Velveteen Rabbit, then you will definitely want to capture this children's book, Audrey Bunny by Angie Smith. It is a beautifully illustrated and wonderful story of a stuffed bunny who used to be one of twelve in the barrel in the toy story but now is only one of two. The bunny is struggling with wanting to find a forever home, but because of a smudge over the heart that she tries to hide whenever someone comes looking for a stuffed animal to take home, she is always tossed back because she is damaged or unwanted because of her mark.

Now that Caroline comes in looking for a birthday present, the bunny hides the mark in order to find a forever home and she succeeds in going home, but she knows that one day Caroline will see it and it's only a matter of time before the bunny, now named Audrey, is taken back to wind up in the barrel forever. Only like all of us, what makes us unique is something worthy in the eyes of those that can see it.

This is a delightful book that demonstrates to children who read it that were are all different in some way, but it's those differences that set us apart and make us special not undesirable. God made us all different and He uses those special characteristics in all of us to show how we are each a masterpiece not an imitation. There is even a great section in the back of the book called Parent Connect that allows parents to ask questions and garner a great discussion for children to learn what it means to be different but not an outcast and it's one of those books that your child will definitely read over and over again.

I received Audrey Bunny by Angie Smith compliments of B and H Publishing Group and FlyBy Promotions for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed in this review are strictly my own. I only wish I would have had this book when my children were younger to point out the lessons in differences in people and how God view them. We are all uniquely created and masterpieces instead of copies. It teaches them to see those differences in new eyes and creates such a great conversation between parents and their kids that they can refer back to the story over and over again. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and have already gifted mine to a special little angel in my life that LOVES this story.
