There has been a lot of noise surrounding this Bible, mainly because it's namesake falls into a premium Bible niche with Preaching Bibles like John MacArthur's 5lb Preacher's Bible. However, what Crossway offers in their Preaching Bible is wholly other.

Crossway's Preaching Bible is a single column, paragraph format text. A lot of buzz was created by those who live and die by preaching from a verse by verse, double column format Bible. However, to Crossway's point, there are many preachers who prefer single column, paragraph Biblesmyself being one of them.

This Bible features a large 10pt font, wide margins (clear of heading unlike the Heirloom Legacy), and boasts 36gsm coated Bible paper. The thickness and opacity of the paper is fantastic. It does make this Bible a little thicker to handle and tote around, but the readability and preachability of the text is superb.

Some negatives: the goatskin cover is really thin. Too thin for my liking. I prefer a slightly thicker cover, especially with a thicker text block like this. The Heirloom Omega and Heirloom Study Bibles are the perfect examples of a cover well done. Also, the ribbons are about as bad as Cambridge ribbons. They are really thin and arrived chewed up.

I'm a huge fan of the Heirloom Legacy. I thought for a second that the Preaching Bible may take the place of the Legacy for me. Bigger text, better paper. Headers in the text itself instead of in the margins. However, the larger typeset shrinks the top and bottom headers. Also, the handfeel and construction of my Heirloom Legacy by Jongbloed just feels so much better.

All that to say, would I recommend this Bible? I would. It's a great reading Bible. A good note-taker. And a decent preaching Bible. And it's on the cheaper spectrum of premiumsaround $129 (at the time of review). **this bible was graciously provided by Crossway for review

Do you want a Bible that will last through anything life can throw at it?

I purchased this Bible about a year ago and can already attest to its durability. The Bible was left mistakenly on my car roof as I was driving one day and to my horror I saw this Bible fly off my roof and onto the road through my rearview mirror. As I went to retrieve it a truck decimated the helpless text and sent it further down the road.

Not one single page came out. The binding is still intact. The goatskin cover has some scratches on the hubs, but after being run over I was really not expecting it to be in mint condition. I preached from that Bible the following Sunday. The pages (which were badly folded) are still highly usable. In fact I have resolved that due to the durability I may never be able to rid myself of this copy even if I chose to.

I highly recommend this Bible for use in ministry, preaching, and for note-taking.

This TruTone over board edition of the "ESV Preaching Bible" is a dream come true for me. It embodies features that are normally associated with much more expensive bibles while yet being much more affordable-- features like a Smyth-sewn binding, premium bible paper, flawless page gilding, convincing faux leather, raised hubs on the spine, a single-column layout, an exceptionally readable font, and a handsome slipcase. I like this bible so much that I will buy two more just to ensure that I will always have at least one on hand for the rest of my life.

The only negative aspect of this bible is the ribbon markers, which are too thin and cheap for a book of this quality. Fortunately, you can purchase better ribbons and install them yourself fairly easily. I would give it 4 1/2 stars if I could, but I can only round it off to 5 stars for this review.

Just buy it. You will not regret it.

So thankful for this Bible! It beautifully presents the word of God. The weight of it is wonderful and allows it to lay flat on the pulpit! I think that is my favorite part. I would highly recommend it. Also, the sale in which I got it through Christianbook was unmatched. Be on the look out!
