KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5UnputdownableAugust 7, 2019KavRCanadaGender: femaleI don't think my heart-rate is back to normal yet. What an incredible suspense! I listened to the audible version and nearly got heatstroke because I have this rule that I have to be doing something while listening to a book so I stayed out in the garden way longer than I should have just so I could keep listening! But it turned out okay because then I got to recover by languishing on my fainting couch with a cool cloth on my forehead listening to more of this incredibly unputdownable book.
Honestly, I'm not sure I can even describe how good this novel is. The suspense elements about drove me crazy -- if I wasn't hyperventilating, I was trying to puzzle out what on earth was going on! What an intricately sinister plot! Lots of surprises in store for the enterprising suspense reader. Kinda puts me in the mind of Terri Blackstock's If I Run series -- has that same kind of desperate vibe only it's all wrapped up in one book.
Evelyn (prefers to be called Tavish) is recovering from some heavy life stuff. She's broken and vulnerable and is desperately searching for peace. But between a domineering mother and past events that have brutally battered her confidence, she's pretty much a wreck when we first meet up with her. And when the crazy things start happening, no one takes her seriously. Including the police. Talk about frayed nerves and nails bitten to the quick! Parks kept me on the raw edge of reader angst right to the very end.
In a case of fight or flight, Tavish always chooses to fight. She doesn't do it well at first. Sometimes she's so hesitant it's painful but she has an inner core of strength that won't let her back down and I love that about her. She's determined to discover the truth -- no matter where it might lead. In the process she learns a lot about herself and discovers how to live out Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Her journey from lost soul to claimed daughter is inspiring!
And there's a spectacular dog! A Puli -- the first I've ever encountered in either fictional or real life! Parks knows how to write in 'dog'. I think she might be a dog whisperer! Loved Tavish's connection with this lovable mutt that soon turns into an unbreakable bond. These two have each other's back -- all the time.
A spectacular edge-of-your-seat suspense that comes complete with some light romance. -
Gretchen Garrison5 Stars Out Of 5unexpected twists in the plotJuly 8, 2019Gretchen GarrisonI think I have read all of Carrie Stuart Parks' books, and this one might be one of my favorites. There were many twists that I did not see coming at all. I really liked the theme of facing who we are and who we are called to be. The only possible downgrade (which obviously did not reflect my rating) was the fact that the main characters' relationship did not seem to reflect the actual time that they spent with each other. How they related to each other at the end did not fit the storyline. But other than that, I found it to be a very enjoyable read!

Lights in a Dark WorldGender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Great suspenseJune 24, 2019Lights in a Dark WorldGender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5From the very beginning this book had me enthralled. I instantly fell in love with all the characters. I found myself wondering who Tavish could trust, who was the enemy, and how she was going to unravel this mystery. I was rooting for her throughout the book. I loved watching Tavish learn how to put her trust in God through one simple verse on her grandmother's tombstone. I kept wondering what's going to happen next. Parks definitely keeps the reader on their toes. She kept me guessing all the way to the end. Once I thought I had it figured out, another twist and I was guessing again. I had a hard time putting this one down. If you love suspense, this is a must-read.
**I received this book for review. I was not required to write a positive review and all thoughts and opinions are my own. -
muffinHonea Path, SCAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent Read!April 27, 2019muffinHonea Path, SCAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I loved this book! It captured my attention from the first page to the very end. I have read all of Carrie Stuart Park's books, so far, and this is definitely one of my favorites. It had some twists and turns and kept me guessing until the very end.
This book follows Evelyn McTavish, who goes by Tavish. It starts out that Tavish is attending her finances funeral. Everyone says he committed suicide, but she doesn't believe it. Then she gets a call to come pick up her dog, but she doesn't have a dog! Yet her number is on the dog's chip. So, there starts the mystery that Tavish is trying to solve. There is a little romance thrown in also.
I definitely recommend this book. It has all the suspense of a thriller yet it is a clean read...which I love! Carrie Stuart Parks is one of my favorite authors, and I am always looking for new books by her!
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion.

Carrie Stuart Parks has a gift for writing fast-paced, action filled, on-the-edge-of-your-seat books that has the reader longing for more. As usual, I read her latest book in a short amount of time. She has a way of crawling into her heroine/hero and making them come to life on the page. I eagerly look forward to reading her next book. Well done, Carrie.
