Set in Michigan's rugged and beautiful Upper Peninsula

A  woman stands by the side of the road, barefoot and bleeding with a child in her arms. Someone just tried to kill her, but she wouldn't recognize him if she saw his face. She doesn't even remember her own name.

A suburban cop surveys a kitchen in disarray, a chilling note and a woman and child missing. This crime scene is unlike any he has ever seen.

The man who calls himself Gideon waits and plans. He sees himself as a destroyer of evil, one who rids the world of abominations. He has already killed five. He will kill again.

Somewhere in the wilderness, in a secret geocache near where the wild swans gather, lies the unspeakable clue that links them all together.

Haven of Swans is one amazing psychological thriller that Colleen Coble is known for. This one really threw me for a loop. When I thought I knew who the serial killer was my mind was absolutely blown. You are at first see the book through the eyes of the killer - isn't that a bite - then you are seeing through one of the victims who got away but who has a missing memory - that is the second bite - and she is getting away from a killer and she sees a car - is it the killer or is it a helper of her and yes a child in her arms - hers or who's another victim the killers? So, does she get into the car with the killer or the right person? and when you find out and find out who the killer is you just will blow your mind into a million pieces like you have never done before, and you will enjoy it...........I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a bit of a creepy read. However not too creepy that I couldn't finish reading it. I liked the characters and they drew me back into the story, but I didn't care to read what the killer did to his victims. Eventhough it wasn't told in detail, my imagination did the work on its own. It was just gross. There were times I wondered "what the heck am I reading?" Well, I finished reading it, partly because I wanted to figure out who the bad guy was. All in all, an okay read, but not a book I would return to.

HAVEN OF SWANS by Colleen Coble, publish by Thomas Nelson, a Rock Harbor novel, release date of May 2. Takes place in Rock Harbor, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It starts off with the dark side, showing the killer's view. Another side of him going home and kissing his daughter good night. A woman bleeding carrying a child, standing by the road, having been attacked. Luckily Bree finds her and takes her home to where her husband and Samson a search and rescue dog live. There is more killing so another cop shows up, this woman refugee feels a connection to him. Yet, is it good or should she be leery of him. A place in the wilderness, where the swans are at, there is a geocache that will tie them all together. This book was darker then her other books I felt, and have all of hers. I feel her attempt was to write the plot from a killers mind. Some may like and others will not. Given ARC by Net Galley for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Rarely does a novel capture your attention from the start and not take time setting the stage before the story really begins. Colleen Coble has mastered plot development and giving just enough details to get the story rolling on page 1. Haven of Swans by Colleen Coble begins with a woman and child stranded on a roadside, injured and with amnesia. The main character Eve does not remember much about her life. All she has left is fear that someone wants her dead. The story continues with many twists and turnsyou will not be able to put it down! Colleen Coble fans and any fans of mysteries/thrillers will not be disappointed! This books is part of the Rock Harbor series and does include characters from the other books in this series. However, it can be read as a stand alone novel without any difficulties. I received a digital copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.

I have read four other books from the Rock Harbor Collection, and a couple of other books in which Rock Harbor characters made cameo appearances. I really enjoyed returning to Rock Harbor in Haven of Swans, and following along with Bree and Kade as they assisted Bay City Police Captain Nick Andreakos in his search for a serial killer, a search that became very personal to each of them. Brees search dog, Samson, plays, as always, a very big role in apprehending the killer, but will he lead Bree there in time to stop him from killing again?

Fans of the television show Criminal Minds will be great fans of Haven of Swans as well. While I would classify most of the Rock Harbor books as mysteries, I would classify this one as a psychological thriller. Coble has included quite a few red herrings for her reader to sort out. Through most of the book I prided myself on identifying the killer, snickering at Cobles attempts to lead me down another path, only to be quite humbled by his true identity.

I highly recommend this book to mystery, thriller, and romance fans. While Colleen Coble is a Christian writer, this book is not preachy, and will appeal to both Christian and secular audiences. This summer a new Rock Harbor book will be added to the collection, Beneath Copper Falls. I, along with other Coble fans, will anxiously be awaiting this next installment. I thank Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for providing me with this copy of Havens of Swans in exchange for my honest opinion. I received no monetary compensation for this review.
