When Lyndie James, Jake's childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion's reluctance to run.
Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake's will, Lyndie's sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he's built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he'd thought he'd lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?

A Love Like Ours is the third book in the Porter Family series. The first two books, Undeniably Yours and Meant to Be Mine, follow the oldest two Porter brothers. A Love Like Ours follows Jake. You dont have to read the first two books in this series, but who doesnt enjoy reading about hunky guys and the girls they fall for? I would totally recommend you read them, because if you dont, you are missing out of some of my absolute favorite books. Wade writes her characters with real feelings we can all relate to. I couldnt put this book down, and finished it in less than 24 hours.
Since Jake has returned from war he hasnt been the same. Things happened over there that he wishes he could change. He is the trainer of Whisper Creek and is good at what he does. But his brokenness is easy for everyone to see. When Lyndie moves back to Texas he knows hes going to eventually run into her, but he isnt in a hurry. When she shows up asking for a job, he doesnt want to risk seeing her everyday, but his brother Bo has other plans. Lyndie is good at what she does, and they have an opening she would fill perfectly. Spending time with her is good for Jake, but can he let her help him? Or will he push her away like he does everyone else?
This was a great story of how love can over come all. Love doesnt mean life will be perfect, but it sure helps get you through some things. I love the Porter family and all of their friends. I cant wait to read the next book in the series knowing it will be amazing! Obviously I am a Becky Wade fan, and know that after reading this you will be too. Those that fight for our freedom dont always come back free. And I appreciate how Wade brought to light what a lot of our service men and women go through when they return home. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction. I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

I've loved all her books but this is the best yet. I'm glad she did the research so Jake's issues with PTSD and survivor's guilt were presented realistically. She writes with some humor, not that this book made me laugh, but I did smile, especially at some of Lyndie's observations (thinking of Jake as Tall, Dark, and Brooding, and her self-talk when she was trying to talk herself out of falling for Jake, for instance). There are some pretty deep subjects dealt with in this story. Besides Jake's issues, there was also Mollie, Lyndie's blind and nonverbal twenty-seven year old sister with severe cerebral palsy. We are able to be reacquainted with the other members of the Porter family and Amber, a friend from UNDENIABLY YOURS, who adds some humor when she persuades Lyndie to join her in her quest for three dates in three months. Add in a very regal horse, Silver Leaf, and the issues surrounding him for more drama. This is a book of hope and the power of friendship and love. The last chapter is quite swoon-worthy and the epilogue wraps up the story nicely. I highly recommend A LOVE LIKE OURS.
SavannaAge: 18-24Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5This Author Always Delivers A Good Story!September 1, 2015SavannaAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4If youre looking for a story that is fun, romantic, and has a lot of heart, this is your book. Dont worry if youve not read the previous books in the series, either. Youll enjoy this one no matter what. It tells its own story, complete with charming characters, settings, and even animals.
I always melt for the stories of best friends who fall in love. I enjoyed how the story showed us a glimpse of our main characters growing up. Their past is really the foundation for their special connection and its interesting to watch these two work through that after several years and tragedies have occurred.
The only thing that saddened me was that I didnt quite bond with Jake and Lyndie as much I expected to. They were likable and I was rooting for them, dont get me wrong. But somewhere along the way, I missed connecting to them on a deeper level. I understood their goals and obstacles on the surface, but I was left wanting a bit more.
With that being said, I appreciated the novels fresh approach. It broke a certain mold, a sort of stereotype, in my eyes. There were issues of infertility. The strong faith of some characters balanced out those who were struggling. And the dating scene and relationships within kept it interesting and unique as well. It felt like real life. You dont always get that in many novels and I appreciated that.
Even though there were some sad and surprising moments, overall it was a lighthearted read for me. This is one author you can always trust to deliver a good story! Readers shouldnt take that for granted. ;) It really is a gift.
Thank you to Bethany House Publishing and the author for providing a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
MarilynCoral Springs, FLAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Struggles, love and GraceAugust 22, 2015MarilynCoral Springs, FLAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is the third book in A Porter Family series. I would say it is a stand alone book, because I have not read the first two and had no trouble following along. However, that being said I do think I probably missed some history of the Porter family by coming in on the 3rd book. So now I must go back and read book one and two. :)
This is my first book by Becky Wade, that I have read, yet it will not be my last. I enjoyed her writing style. She is not afraid to tackle some tough topics like PTSD. Her characters are very real with problems of their own. Sometimes they handle them correctly and sometimes not so well. There is emotion an understanding in her writing.
Jake Porter is suffering from PTSD he is a strong willed, determined horse trainer. He has his own agenda and does not want anyone to get through the wall he has built around himself. When Lyndie James walks back into his life, he is not prepared for the feelings that well up with in him. Will he be able to keep his wall up or will she find a way around it?
Lyndie James loves animals and helping others. She has a loving and caring personality. She is also a determined stubborn woman with a plan of her own. When she finds Jake Porter broken and in need of healing, can she help him or is he beyond help? Will she be able to wait on God's timing or will she rush ahead with plans of her own. Lyndie has a strong faith that has been built through a lifetime of trials, yet they have only made her stronger.
This book is full or some side stories as well. You will fall in love with all the characters, flaws and all. I look forward to reading more by Becky Wade.
I was given a copy of this book from Bookclub.org for my honest opinion.
