Mary DeMuth, author of Jesus Every Day
"Truly a devotional treasure. In 31 Proverbs to Light Your Path, Liz gently leads us through a series of proverbs, unpacking them with depth and insight as she shares discoveries from her own journey and offers ideas for personal application. This book reminds us that Proverbs is much more than a collection of pithy insights; it is a rich well of wisdom and revelation for everyday life. Keep it on your bedside table."
Jo Saxton, author of The Dream of You and board chair of 3Dmovements
"For most of my life, Ive prayed one single prayer over and over: God, grant me wisdom! Even as a child, I knew wisdom to be my lamp in the dark, a needed comfort while trying to find my way through a complicated life. In 31 Proverbs to Light Your Path, Liz Curtis Higgs mines rich biblical text to reveal the brightest of lights, thirty-one truths with enough wattage to help you and me walk through the most difficult of nights. Even better, she comes alongside and takes the journey with us."
Michele Cushatt, author of Undone and I Am
"With a delightfully fresh approach, 31 Proverbs to Light Your Path illuminates familiar passages, and Liz makes the journey through these words of wisdom both personal and practical. Many books focus on general truths in Proverbs, but Liz goes word by word, and this digging turns up plenty of new treasures along the way. This is a book Ill gladly return to again and again."
Holley Gerth, author of What Your Heart Needs for the Hard Days
"I absolutely love how Liz Curtis Higgs writes with clarity, tenderness, truth, humor, and depth. As in her other books, Liz uses careful study of Gods Word to reveal the nuances of the original Hebrew in the selected scriptures. Formatted for both personal and group Bible study, this is not a read-only-once book. Each writing is full of richness that will have the reader discovering new insights with each reading. The "One Minute, One Step" challenges are practical, eye-opening, and sometimes convicting. You will come away from this book with a greater understanding of the character and goodness of God and how our lives can reflect His truth."

I enjoyed the stories and humor throughout. It also is a very serious book to help apply God's wisdom to each of our lives. Liz has a wonderful writing style and insightful stories throughout that matches the Scripture reading for the day. I like the short chapters, as I can do this before bed, or early in the morning before I start my day. Each Bible verse is broken down into word studies for each verse presented. Liz uses lots of different Bible Translations to clarify the meaning of God's Word. At the end of each section, there is a beautiful prayer, and has a study guide to help apply what was learned.
I highly recommend this book, I believe it will draw you closer to God each Day and give you encouragement and hope like never before. One day I was depressed about something, opened this book and read a page, and started to giggle at Liz's humorous story in that chapter. It made me feel like I was not alone in my struggles in life, and pointed me towards God, who is my hope. I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.

A word-by-word-by-word Bible study of 31 beloved Proverbs presented by Liz Curtis Higgs, who used more than thirty different English translations of the Bible for research. Combined with her gentle honesty and timed-just-right humor, this book is easy to read yet powerful!
I have to admit, it wasn't what I expected when I read the title of the book, 31 Proverbs to Light Your Path. Because there are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs, I thought it was a study of the entire book. But this is better. A word-by-word-by-word study of every verse may have been overwhelming for both writer and reader. Looking at 31 verses under Higgs's microscope was just enough. Though she could write a sequel if she wanted to. Higgs's Bible studies always bring so much truth to light.
As a bonus in this book, Higgs follows each chapter with a feature called One Minute, One Step. This is a short activity promised to only take one minute of the reader's time yet designed to help the reader take action right away, cementing the lesson learned. I've really appreciated each of these.
Waterbrook Multnomah sent me a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my opinion, presented here. I recommend this book to anyone desiring a closer walk with God through a greater understanding of His Word.

It is a very practical, simple, and useable 31 chapter book. Higgs walks through 31 Proverbs as a guide, teacher, and friend. She also challenges us to one simple reflection or task to that applies or highlights the Proverb in each chapter called One Minute, One Step. I found these to be enjoyable and effective.
One of my favorite chapters of 31 Proverbs To Light Your Path is Chapter 17 Smart Money. Liz walks us through Proverbs 16:16, How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver. She points out that thieves can steal your money but not your wisdom. I loved her personal story in this chapter about her new raincoat. I could so see myself in this story! She ends the chapter with a brief prayer asking God to teach her to value what He values. In her One Minute, One Step, Liz encourages us to quickly go through our closets and find an item we havent worn in a long time. Then, try it on and if it doesnt fit donate it to a favorite charity shop. Again, this book is very practical and good for the soul.
I first became acquainted with Liz Curtis Higgs when I read her retelling of Ruth, Mine is the Night. It quickly became one of the books I recommend the most to friends who are looking for a good read. I know you will enjoy this book just as much. I requested a review copy from Bloggingforbooks because i knew I would enjoy it. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions are my own. I have not been compensated.

Liz Curtis Higgs is a talented author, writing books for children and adults alike. She writes both fiction and non-fiction genres as well. This book is one that is like a warm light bringing comfort in what can be a dark world.
This author has chosen 31 verses from the book of Proverbs in the Old Testament of the Bible. Each chapter is only a couple pages long. At the end of each chapter, the author has added an application page called, "One Minute, One step." Each of them contain a suggestion of something practical and do-able to apply the lesson of that chapter.
At the end of the book, there are discussion questions that could be included with each chapter and verse to make this either a personal devotional or a group Bible Study. The author has used many different versions of the Bible to delve into as much insight as possible to make these verses come alive for us. She also includes many other Bible verses as cross references when digging into a topic of interest. There's a lot of love in this volume.
I loved this study so much that my copy of the book is all marked up, with underlined phrases, starred special quotes, and parenthesis around passages I want to read over and over. The author brings to the table a transformed life, where she shares her own experiences and insights into these verses. Her storytelling ability held me to the page so many times. I can see that I'm going to get a lot of mileage out of this book.
The part of this book I like best is its conversational nature. I felt as if she and I were sitting at a table with a cup of tea or coffee in front of us, just talking about the Lord and His graciousness. It is both comfortable and meaningful, delightful yet pithy. I gained some new perspectives on life by going through this study verse by verse. If she wrote another 31 verses out of Proverbs and published it, I would be the first one in line to purchase it.
