It took him a full 10 years to complete. He worked not from any English text but from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek manuscripts, to guarantee authenticity. At the same time, his ear was always tuned to the cadence and energy of contemporary English.
Peterson and his wife, Jan, now live in his native Montana. They are the parents of three and the grandparents of six.

Billie4 Stars Out Of 5RefreshingDecember 22, 2016BillieQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I really like The Message. It is so clear and easy to understand. It gives new insight into passages that I have never understood before. I would advise others to use their KJV or NKJV, to compare with. But I can sit and read this book for a long time and get such comfort and inspiration from it. I love the KJV because its verses are so poetic and beautiful, and I would memorize the verses from it, but this version is so refreshing. Our church has reviewed it and accepted it as an addition, to be used with your other Bible. The only thing I don't like about this one is the hard cover and the size needed for large print. It's cumbersome to hold. I bought a smaller version with a soft cover and I can still see the smaller print so I will read it until I can no longer see it. I think this is also good for teens and young people that don't read the Bible because they can't understand it. I bought 3 soft cover New Testament books to give to some of my younger family members because I think they will probably at least give it a try. I feel like this text is inspired. I believe the author, a pastor, spent 10 years writing it, so it wasn't written out of greed, it was written out of love. He saw how the standard Bible was so hard for so many of his church to understand and so he wrote it in modern day language, for them. I love mine. This would have 5 stars if it wasn't for the bulky size, and that can't be avoided with the larger print.
Beka5 Stars Out Of 5The Message BibleNovember 14, 2016BekaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love The Message Bible. It is everything I thought it would be and more. It. is easy to understand and it makes reading The Bible a whole lot easier and a lot more fun....The large print makes it easy to read for me due to having weak eyesight. Thank you!!!
fergie1 Stars Out Of 5BEWARESeptember 24, 2016fergieQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0The Message is NOT a Bible. It is a true mockery of the Bible. For example:
Psalm 1:1 ESV:
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers.
Psalm 1:1 The Message
How well God must like you-
you don't hang out at Sin-Saloon
you don't slink along Dead-End Road
you don't go to Smart-Mouthed College
Seriously folks. Be very careful. Do not rely on The Message as the inspired word of God because it clearly is not
Dr Tom5 Stars Out Of 5Great additionAugust 15, 2016Dr TomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is a great addition to my religious studies. It is refreshing to review after spending time in other reference sources. Plain English and clear to meaning. I find no fault with this edition. As I have said before, there is no standard text for God's word. If one starts reading, in whatever text, and the "author" shows up and inspires your life, then the word is divine. Don't prejudge on you own bias.
Q: In the Message Bible are Jesus's words in red
Jesus' words are not in red in this edition.
