The Seven Step Guide to Authorpreneurship by Rochelle Carter is a valuable resource for a writer with a clear-cut plan and step-by-step instructions for publishing with a company or for self-publishing a book. This is an informative read for anyoneeven someone who is in the midst of writing a book. However, Rochelle encourages everyone to finish writing their work before following her guide. She has words of expertise for writing, polishing, and editing the book; creating a business plan; creating an author platform; engaging the audience; launching the book; and paying it forward and networking with other authors. Besides all of the above wealth of information and tips, she has included an Appendix on Book Reviews; E-book Promotional Sites; Fairs, Tradeshows, Conventions, and Conferences; and Sample Letters & Templates. This book has it all-everything that a writer needs to know to accomplish the task of publishing the book and promoting the book. She does not say that it is an easy process, but she gives you all of the tools to achieve your dream, if you follow her steps. A very impressive and interesting read for anyone but especially for those aspiring to write and publish a book. I highly recommend this instructional guide. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.

This is definitely a handbook. One cannot just sit down and read it through. It depends on where you are as a writer which part you will find most helpful. It has something for everyone.

If you want to be a successful author today, Carter writes, you must be an authorpreneur an author who is creative and a business person.

Not to worry, however, as Carter gives a practical plan to create the success of your book. She covers the entire process from writing to marketing with an eye to affordable ways to get it done.

Here are the steps she gives:

    Write and Polish Your Manuscript

    Create Your Business Plan

    Create Your Author Platform

    Engage Your Audience

    Get Ready to Launch

    Keep the Momentum

    Pay it Forward

It that seems like a lot of work, it is. Carter says it will take months to set up all the tools she recommends. But she gives precise step-by-step instructions throughout. For example, for the Digital Press Kit, she gives nine essential elements. Carter has included everything you need to know, including suggestions on costs. She has included Appendices with additional resources, including possible reviewers, promotion sites, etc.

This is a good book for an author who plans to self-publish or one who has had a book published but finds it is going nowhere. It is a book you will return to again and again.

You have to invest in yourself, she says. To sell your book you have to sell yourself. If you are committed and ready for hard work, this book will give you the path to a successfully written and marketed book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through the Book Club Network for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

Author/Artist Review

Author: Rochelle Carter

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am the Publisher at Ellechor Media an award-winning publishing company with three imprints and an online bookstore. As publisher and Authorpreneur Business Consultant, I provide publishing consulting services for various authors, and managing the acquisition and production process for all of Ellechor's imprints. Through my company, I publish books with a purpose. Ellechor Media imprints have published over 40 books in less than three years, 98% of which enjoy 4-star or higher Amazon ratings.

What was your motivation behind this project?  Firstly, my passion lies in educating authors and helping them to avoid as many publishing regrets as possible. I started out writing The Seven Step Guide to Authorpreneurship as a small guide for Ellechor authors. However, as I continued writing I realized that it could help a broader audience of authors. The book is based on my experiences with publishing and my own authors.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope that authors will utilize as many of the tools I have provided in these steps so they can be successful authors. There are not many clear guides with the entire process all in one place, so this book takes a lot of the guess work out of publishing and marketing.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I am very introverted, so despite having written a book on putting yourself out there as an author, I was inclined as some authors to "quietly release" and not make too much of a buzz. My book was a great kick in the pants to remind me that I have to walk the talk. It motivated me to create a plan that was comfortable yet challenging, pushing me to do more and more in the public. I am glad to say after following my own advice, I launched my book with 15+ endorsements from bestselling authors and industry professionals (including the Dir. of Bowker Identifier Services and the Dir. Christian Small Publishers Association).

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Publishing is a team sport, so as with any team you need the right players to augment your strengths and support your weaknesses. I offer a free consultation to help authors select their team, but of course I suggest you start with The Seven Step Guide to Authorpreneurship!
