She and Isaac are keen on marrying each other, but Emmie has a secret she is too afraid to tell him. Just as she get's a chance to confide in him, a widower friend tells her she needs to fulfill an impossible promise she made to his dead wife long before Emmie was in love.
When the Sioux threaten the fort will she honor her promise to the widower and break her and Isaac's heart?
To be honest I hesitated getting this novella because I've never read any others in this six book series. I read some reviews on it beforehand, and everyone pretty much said it was easy to jump right into the book no matter if I'd read the earlier ones or not. Despite what others may have put in their reviews, it wasn't.
The little novella (it is ninety some pages) seems it needed to be attached to the book before it. It jumps right into the middle of the story, and the characters don't give us (us as in anyone who's never read any of the other books), enough backstory.
I'm not a huge fan of novellas anyway (never have been), so I always find them too short with not enough character development. I think I would have liked A Heart's Home a lot better if it hadn't been a novella though. I'd like to see this in a regular book so I wouldn't have to buy all six tiny stories, (literally I wasn't expecting the book to be so thin!).
I will say though, that Colleen Coble's writing is (as always) fantastic, and she never disappoints me with characters or a plot. Even if I had a hard time getting into the story I'm 100% sure it was because, again, this is a series I failed to read beforehand.
The front cover is beautiful by the way! I love the gorgeous scenery.
If you've read the series Journey of the Heart, "A Heart's Home" is what you should buy now - you won't be disappointed!

ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5The Perfect EndingAugust 30, 2015ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. Colleen Coble is a masterful story teller. She paints a beautifully vivid picture of life in the Wyoming Territory in the mid 1800's. This book is no exception. Like all of Colleen's books, the ending warmed my heart. Everything panned out, just like I knew it would. I loved the conflict between Emmie and Jacob. Colleen always throws a twist in the story you didn't see coming, and this was certainly no exception. It is absolutely the perfect ending to a fantastic series. Emmie and Sarah both find a home for their fragile, broken hearts. I just love it!

Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A Good Finale to the SeriesAugust 23, 2015Britt98Grand Prairie, TXAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Having read all six books in this novella series, I feel that A Hearts Home is a good and fitting finale to the ongoing story of the lives of Rand, Sarah, Jacob, Amelia, Isaac, and Emmie. There are heartbreaking moments in this book and quite a few emotional highs and lows. But, I enjoyed this story from start to finish and liked the way everything worked out by the end of the novella.
I definitely recommend reading the entire series in order or the reader will be left with some questions, or just perhaps a sense that they are not as connected to the characters as they could be. I felt like I went on quite a journey with these characters from novellas one through six. It was an interesting peek back into history.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Kristieupstate NYAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5excellent conclusion to the seriesAugust 21, 2015Kristieupstate NYAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have really enjoyed Colleen Coble's A Journey of the Heart series and was a little sad to have it end as I loved this series and all of the characters. I really liked the ending though and the character development throughout the six novellas. Sarah and Rand faced so many trials in their lives and I loved the characters that were introduced and brought into their lives throughout the series as well especially Emmie who became a favorite of mine in the last two novellas. Emmie has faced many trials in her life from her childhood to her late husband and now to heartbreak and loss of a close friend whom she made a promise to. I felt like Colleen did an excellent job with setting the scene and bringing the time period to life. The uneasiness and tension that was a part of every day life. The characters were also so real and I felt as if I was experiencing the whole range of emotions along with them as they experienced love, new friendships, hope and welcome along with sorrow and loss. I highly recommend this novella series for historical fiction fans.
