Antonia5 Stars Out Of 5copyright issues for some here?May 11, 2019AntoniaHi,
I don't want to seem Pharisaical...But several reviews here have stated the people plan to use this book for their choir. The book is more expensive than many churches will spend on one single book for each choir member. I hope that the choirs are legitimately purchasing original copies for each individual in the choir, and not simply photocopying this beautiful music, which is fully illegal and not permitted and robs the arranger of his rightful earnings for this lovely book. (P.S. I don't know Mr. Kingsmore at all; my concern is with all composers and arrangers, many of whom struggle to earn a living. Part of this struggle is the willingness of musicians to illegally photocopy, which is theft. This should never be permitted to happen in God's Kingdom, that we would steal from the people God gifted to bring us this music with which to minister!) I really do hope and pray that Christian musicians will have proper regard for the people who provide us with our tools of ministry and will see to it that everything is done to rightfully get the composers and arrangers their due pay for their labors.
Also, know that being a member of an organization like Christian Copyright Clearinghouse (CCLI) does NOT give the church choir permission to photocopy music for itself. Permission is granted only for congregational worship singing. Not for choirs, not for soloists, not for pianists who play piano for soloists. All musicians must have their very own original copy for any music that is not going to be sung by the congregation. This is what the law states, and these are the legal permissions obtained by the CCLI licensing organization to permit churches to worship together in song without huge financial burden of buying lots of music books for every church attendee. CCLI has nothing to do with choirs nor special music soloists/accompanists. Again, this is to protect the wages of the composers, lyricists, and arrangers. "The worker is worthy of his wages", scripture tells us. So even if the law permitted copying for choir, the principles of scripture are against it. It's taking wrongful advantage. How would we like it if other people had the opportunity to freely deprive us of our own earned income, and they decided to do that to us? This is not "brotherly love".
