Mystery Rider has a great, suspenseful start! Who is the mystery rider? This story includes lessons on learning to include people and not leave them out of friendship circles, not making judgments about people based on gossip, thinking things through before acting, and helping others. At first I was concerned, because the children make some decisions and head out to do something while keeping important information from their parents. Things work out well and no one is hurt, but I was very happy that the parents become involved in working out the situation that arises and in making sure that the kids understand that they could have put themselves in danger.

My nine year olds thoughts: I really like it because it adds a little bit of mystery and adventure into the series.

Miralee Ferrell in her new book, Mystery Rider Book Three in the Horses and Friends series published by David C. Cook gives us another adventure with Kate Ferris.

From the Back Cover: Who is the hooded mystery rider that appears only at dusk?

Thirteen-year-old Kate Ferris already has one problem. Snooty, well-to-do Melissa is boarding her horse at Kates family stable. When Melissa suddenly turns nice, Kate is shocked and suspicious.

The last thing she needs is more trouble. So when a hooded rider appearsand then disappearson a stunning black horse outside her home, Kate isnt sure if Melissa is playing a trick or something more dangerous is going on. Either way, Kate and her friends will need an extra measure of faith and courage to solve this mystery.

Of the three books in this series so far this is Ms. Ferrell at her best. This is a continuation of the story about a girl, friendship, and horses. The four friends decide to enter into the parade to help advertise the horse ranch where they provide boarding and riding lessons. While making plans for Fort Dalles Days parade they see a mystery rider dressed all in black, face covered, riding a black horse. This is a very interesting mystery that is going to keep you guessing. Kate, Tori and even Melissa are remarkable characters that you fall in love even more and root for to succeed. This is one exciting book that will keep you flipping pages to keep up with the story. You and your kids are going to enjoy this book. I am looking forward to the next book in this series with great interest.

This is the third in the Horses and Friends series and another great story.

Melissa suggests the barn have an entry in the Fort Dallas Rodeo parade. Kate, Tori, Colt and Melissa start to plan at a get together at Kate's house. After Melissa leaves, the three remaining kids spot a black horse with a mysterious rider covered in a slicker and hood. They wait outside in the late afternoon for several days until they see the figure again. They decide to follow the mysterious duo, leading them into possible danger.

I continue to enjoy these stories. They have a good mixture of intrigue and adventure with a surrounding framework of friendship. There is always a moral lesson to learn and the one in this book deals with lying. Well, not lying so much as not telling the entire truth. Kate is able to convince herself that not telling the whole story is not really lying. Circumstances come crashing down and the truth comes out anyway.

The four friends really mature in this novel. Melissa haltingly becomes a more feeling and supporting friend. Kate and Colt, along with the others, show maturity and selfless love in helping an elderly woman. And Tori? Tori is a really sweet girl. She is beginning to show a gentle boldness that focuses on helping others. As the kids concentrate on helping someone else, they learn that God provides what they need themselves.

Get your tissues ready. You'll need them. I can't remember the last time a youth novel elicited such an emotion. I highly recommend this entertaining and instructive fiction.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Litfuse for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

This third installment in the Horses and Friends series is sure to please both young readers and adults. I think that horse lovers and mystery lovers, in particular, will find much in this one to hold their attention and keep their interest! Kate and her friends see a "mystery rider" on a beautiful, black horse who only rides at night and with a hood covering the face. They are determined to solve the mystery of the horse and rider but first they have to find them.

Melissa has now joined their little group and since she used to treat Kate badly, Kate does not trust her and wonders why she is being so nice to them now. Does she want something? Is the "mystery rider" a trick Melissa and her old rich friends are pulling? Read the book to find all these answers and many other surprises.

I rate this book 5 stars and think other readers will love it as I did.

I received a kindle version of this book from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Miralee Ferrell has outdone herself in this Horses and Friends series for kids ages 8-12. Her latest offering, Mystery Rider, is as good, if not better, than the first two.

Kate Ferris and her friends Colt and Tory have reluctantly let snobby Melissa into their social circle. Melissa suggests the kids advertise the stables by riding in the upcoming Fort Dalles Days parade. As the kids begin brainstorming, they are sidetracked by a spooky phantom rider, dressed all in black, face covered, riding a black horse. Who is this rider, and why is he/she trying to scare the friends? Is it Melissa herself, showing her true colors?

Miralee shows a familiarity with daily struggles a family with an autistic child can face. She also sensitively shows the struggles young teens face as they navigate uncertain friendships, battling between following their human natures or Christ's directives. The teens in this story truly begin to blossom in this book, making it enjoyable for adult or preteen as well! Highly recommended!!
