Instead he meets and is transformed by the God of all grace.
It all gets a bit messy when Alexa's cousin Anna-Grace Braun turns up. There is a great deal of mystery and the resolution is amazing. Kim Vogel Sawyer does her usual excellent job of weaving spiritual lessons into a great story. I know you'll enjoy it, but make sure you read the series in order.
Creative2xmomCaliforniaAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A Great "Middle" To This TrilogyJuly 21, 2015Creative2xmomCaliforniaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The second book in the Zimmerman Restoration series, When Grace Sings picks up the story of Alexa, the adopted daughter of an Amish exile. We find Alexa managing the B&B in her grandmother's house as a stranger reporter comes searching for his break out story. But they both hold their own secrets. She's hiding from hers and he's running from his. But in a small Amish community, secrets have a way of catching up.
Picking up from the first book, When Mercy Rains, I was curious to see what direction Sawyer would take with this book. Middle books are so hard to write in trilogies. However, this book offered new engaging characters and really took the trilogy in an unexpected direction. And quite a delightful one.
This book is written in such a way that we "hear" from each character's perspective. It can get confusing at first and the first several chapters took me awhile to get into the flow of reading. However, as the book moves on, it allowed me glimpses into each of their thoughts. It makes for an interesting read.
All in all, I'm delighted with how this series is progressing. This book was a well-written "middle" and I look forward to the conclusion of these characters' story.
*Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.
Booklover105 Stars Out Of 5Looking foward to book 3!June 24, 2015Booklover10Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is such a beautiful cover. I don't know if it's because it uses my favorite colors or what exactly, but it screams relaxation to me just by looking at it. Well done on the cover!
Kim Vogel Sawyer is a staple on my bookshelf. I'm pretty certain I've read most of her books and have always enjoyed them. This is the second book in her series Zimmerman Restoration Series.
I always enjoy books that build off a previous one. I feel a deeper connection with the story because the reader grows to know the characters more. This book could be read alone, but has so much more meaning if you have read the first one in the series. However, if you're one of those people who doesn't mind starting in the middle of the series, then by all means, go for it! I think that you'll be able to quickly decipher what all is happening easily enough.
Another thing I appreciate about this book is it's unique writing style. I read a lot so I enjoy when I come across a book written just a little bit differently. This book is written from the point of view of four different people. I like getting each character's perspective on the different situation. It flowed beautiful with the perfect transitions and I never felt like I had been lost in the book.
Now I have to stay tuned to book 3 in this series because I need to have this story resolved. I'll warn you that there's not a definitely resolution yet.... you must hang out until book 3 is released!
I received this book free from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
Carrie ShindorfCosby, MissouriAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5An Amish Book Series You Don't Want To MissMay 26, 2015Carrie ShindorfCosby, MissouriAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love Amish books and I am fond of Kim's writing. This book was a hard read for me at first. I realized the reason I had a hard time was do to the fact~ I had not read the first book in the series. (The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy) I had to connect the dots before I could fully grasps the book. Once I did~ it was hard to put the book down.
I really liked how the book mixes the Old Order Amish, Mennonite and English worlds~ bringing them all together. That was fun and real life. An English reporter named Briley~ comes to town to prove the simple people were not all they were cracked up to be. He happens to stay at a B&B ran by Alexa and her Grandmother. Stephen and his father are making all the updates and repairs to the B& B. Stephen is engaged to be married to Anna-Grace. The story is told from each point of view and they all come crashing together to discover family secrets that had been untold for over two decades.
I think Briley adds a lot of twist to this Amish story. A fast-paced reported from the city who is neither Amish or even a Christian. He is seeking to dispel all things real about God fearing people. Little did he anticipate what an impact this assignment would make in his life.
I loved the book and could not put it down. I do recommend that you read the first book in the series first called~ When Mercy Reigns.

What did I just read.
That's a pretty good way to sum up my thoughts after completing this beauty.
What a book!I've read a lot of Amish lately so it's no surprise this showed up in my inbox. What did come as a surprise was the author. My grandpa loves her, so, as every good granddaughter would do, I gave it a try. All for my grandpa. Little did I know, it would be this good!
The protagonists. This book is unique in the way that it is from four different people's points of views. Four! I loved each and every one...except Stephen was a definite favorite. I could really identify with his problem of wanting to be what others want you to be while still following your dreams.
Back to the pov. You'd think it would be annoying, jumping between characters, not making sense, broken chapters. Nope!Kim writing is fantastic: It flowed smoothly though out the book and made you feel "present" in their community. The grace and mercy throughout this book was AMAZING. True to the Christian genre, this book has a message without being preachy. LOVE!
Now to rant. I was AGRIVATED. Why? Nothing irritates me more then a cliff hanger! On one hand it might help with sales with one series but chances are, next time I won't be starting a book if that's how it's going to be. I am THE most impatient person on the planet and when you go from one person hanging in the first book to THREE?! Not ok. To be honest though, I love kim books enough that I'll stick with her. Even though she triggers my impatience.
Such a stunning cover! True to my style, the covers of these lovelies have a similar style BUT I will say, I like this second cover best.
One more thing I will say;
I didn't and was ok but family connections will be so much less confusing if you read book one. Plus, what's the harm in more Kim Vogel Sawyer anyways?
*My overall thoughts*
When Grace Sings by Kim Vogel Sawyer is an inspirational Amish story on struggle, triumph, and grace through our Lord. Filed from cover to cover with expert writing and grace-filled characters, Kim weaves a sweet story that becomes a must read with each page turned!
I give When Grace Sings by Kim Vogel Sawyer...
*I received this book from Litfuse and the publisher in exchange for an honest review, which I have given. All thoughts were my own and I was not compensated in any other way.
