Musicgirl665 Stars Out Of 5Great ReadOctober 7, 2017Musicgirl66Quality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This book trades back and forth between Virginia in 1204 and Virginia in the present time. CelesteTalbot (1702) and Maddee Talbot (present day) have obstacles to overcome and mysteries to solve. I loved how the two stories wove around each other to answer questions the reader has. My Sister's prayer is every bit as good as My Brother's Crown. I highly recommend this book. It can be read independently of the first book the in Cousins of the Dove series. I received a free copy of this book by winning a contest.

Maybe it's because the historical thread is set in Williamsburg, Virginia, a place close to my heart, or because I could identify some with the control-freak tendencies of the present-day main character, Maddee. I just loved this second book in the Cousins of the Dove series. (Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book from the publisher. Review reflects my honest opinion.)
In both the historical and contemporary thread, the women are thrown off by their plans for how life should go. This is a theme that is dear to my heart, and often leads to something so much better than imagined.
The present day storyline unravels more of the decades-old mystery and continues to build on the relationships between the Talbot cousins, two of whom are sisters and who play the main roles in this book. Two sisters also star in the historical storyline.
I continue to be impressed by the authors' abilities to write from the first-person for a different Talbot cousin in each present-day storyline as well as by their research for the historical storyline. If I have any complaint, it's that sometimes it seems like the storylines are wrapped up too quickly in an almost unbelievable way. But that is a minor downside.

And although this book does stand alone, I think the modern story follows better if youve read the previous one.
I loved this book!!! I enjoyed reading about old Williamsburg and also the mystery from the modern time and also how the sisters Maddie and Nicole go and visit Williamsburg seeing the same buildings as their ancestor but over 300 years later! The authors bring so much into the books not only the history I know about such as slavery but also how the practice of indentured servants worked, but also contemporary issues such as addictions and more.
So, again, I really loved this book history and contemporary, mystery and romance and highly recommend it!!!
KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Absorbing right to the very last pageApril 18, 2017KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The second book in The Cousins of the Dove series and I love the continuation of dueling timelines. The parallel sister stories make for a gripping read. Though they share some commonalities, they are are also unique so it's like getting two books in one. And yes, this novel can be read as a standalone. There is an ongoing mystery in the present day timeline that carries through each book but the authors do a great job of presenting necessary information from the first book so a new-to-the-series reader won't feel lost at all.
In 21st century Virginia sisters Maddee and Nicole deal with a traumatic incident from the past in very different ways. Maddee leads a contained, organized and structured life while Nicole follows the promptings of her free spirit with disastrous results. There's plenty of angst, unresolved issues and a domineering grandmother that I have a love/hate relationship with. Oh....and romance! Not to mention a decades old mystery that seems to be haunting them still.
Centuries earlier the Talbot's ancestors face their own struggles in the New World. The historical details are riveting. From the voyage across the ocean -- shudder! -- to the duplicity of men dealing with the indentured servants, their story is rife with conflict and danger. These sisters have their own relationship issues to resolve before they can face a future as allies and friends. And, oh yeah, even more romance!
Absorbing right through to the very last page. I can't wait to read My Daughter's Legacy which releases in July of this year.
Jen PenMidwest4 Stars Out Of 5Skillfully written parallel yet perpendicular story...March 10, 2017Jen PenMidwestQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4SUMMARY:
As the second book in the Cousins of the Dove series, My Sister's Prayer continues the Talbot family story, following the story of two sets of sisters-one contemporary and the other historical-separated by 300 years. Told in the first person point-of-view, alternating between present and past, the sisters' lives runindividually yet intertwine through a family heirloom. Romance, sisters, secrets, and hardships divide yet combine the centuries as sisters realize the importance of devotion.
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Liking authors Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould, I was ready to read their combined novel. Though perhaps just a bit confusing in the beginning, it wasn't long before I caught on and sped through the book. (Confession- I did not read book 1, My Brother's Crown, which may have helped my initial confusion.) Skillfully making the first person POV work well within the story, the added design of parallel yet perpendicular stories only enhanced the creativity. With book 3 already on the horizon, I most likely will read the previous novel to be ready for the May 2017 release of My Daughter's Legacy.
