"THE SANCTUARY may make you wonder if prisons manufacture more criminals than they rehabilitate. The vivid descriptions and drama are gripping, and the alternating POVs add depth to the characters and story. Dekker reminds us that we are all prisoners, though it may be our minds, vs. prison bars, holding us captive."—RT Book Reviews on The Sanctuary, 4 1/2 Stars TOP PICK!

"Dekker, the prolific best-selling author of more than 20 books including the "Book of Mortals" series and "The Circle" trilogy, draws on his exotic Indonesian childhood for his new thrilling adventure saga. . .Combining a rich visual portrait of a Stone Age civilization and a surprising spiritual redemption, this excellent book will engage suspense and historical fiction readers."—Library Journal on Outlaw, starred review

    A captivating sequel to A.D. 30

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

A.D. 33 is the sequel to A.D. 30. Two years has passed and Judah is still Saman's prisoner. Maviah has become an integral part of of the leadership of the Thaemond, and has amassed an army of ten thousand. They plan to attack Kahil and save Judah, but they require a larger army. Maviah has adopted a little boy that she has saved in the desert and Saba has been teaching him about Jesus. Now he has been taken and Maviah must bring Jesus' power back to Petra or lose her son.

This was an awesome story of God's forgiveness and how much he truly loves us. I loved the way it was explained that we are in the world but not of it. I learned a lot from this novel, there were some really deep moments. I think this is a great series to reaffirm your faith in God.

Set two years after the events of A.D. 30, this follow-up novel continues Maviah's journey. She is now called the Queen of the Outcasts as she shares the way of Yeshua with the her people in the desert. But that way is soon forgotten when the enemy threatens to crush all that she loves. She sets out to find Yeshua to help save her people, only to find that he is facing death himself.

Another great novel from Dekker! The characters, just as in the first novel, are real and relatable. The story of Maviah is perfectly woven into historical events.

I was moved to tears more times than I care to count. The story is both tragic and uplifting at the same time. There were moments when I found myself with my mouth open in shock, or my hand over my mouth. There was a point where I wanted to throw the book across the room in anger. (No, I'm not joking.) Dekker knows how to stir you, and most certainly does it with this book.

In this sequel to the already compelling A.D. 30, be prepared to once again be swept off your feet in this incredibly powerful story of how a woman, man, and child become one with the man known as Yeshua.

It's been three years since Maviah started the journey that led her to become queen of the Bedu and daughter of the One True King. Even though she trusts in Yeshua, the past three years have not been without suffering and great hardship. The man she loves, Judah, is imprisoned by the ruthless evildoer who killed her first son. Her people, the outcasts, are lost in the desert and risk starvation every day. But still, Maviah strives to spread the good news of Yeshua and maintain peace with the help of Saba, her protector and rock. When her newly adopted son is kidnapped, Maviah gives into her rage and fear and all peace is lost. Now faced with a seemingly impossible mission, Maviah and Saba rush to Yeshua in hopes of remembering the forgotten way and saving her son. But can Maviah keep faith even as her Savior faces certain death?

Wow, what an incredible read. I don't think I've ever read a book that so deeply touched me before, so much so I practically balled my eyes out about five different times. I hung onto every word, eagerly anticipated each chapter. I was this close to reading A.D. 33 before A.D. 30, and I am so happy I didn't and borrowed the latter from the library. It allowed a deeper insight into the characters and backstory that I wouldn't have been able to grasp fully otherwise. So though they can be read separately, I HIGHLY recommend you read A.D. 30 first!

I don't want to say much else about the plot, because I don't want to ruin a single moment of surprise and suspense from this epic novel. But I will say that the scenes with Yeshua were POWERFUL and evoked much thought. The author did a fantastic job of staying true to His teachings, but it didn't feel copy-and-paste. The suspense was crazy, there were moments where I literally could feel my heartbeat racing. At the same time, this book focused more on the spiritual journey of Maviah, Saba, Judah, and Talya (different perspectives are portrayed in this one) instead of the physical story of war and adventure, though it had that too just not as much as the first. The message the author was trying to convey is very clear and marvelously done. I know this inspiring story will stay on my mind and heart for a long while to come.

An utterly brilliant and riveting biblical fiction novel from Ted Dekker! I honestly can't even begin to explain it properly, you will simply have to read it and see for yourself. So, so happy I picked this one up. Again, highly recommended!!

P.S. (Please don't skip the author's awesome foreword!)

Ted Dekker is an author who never ceases to amaze me with the stories he shares with all of us! A. D. 33 is the sequel to A. D. 30 where we meet again with Maviah and Saba who are learning what it really means to follow Yeshua. They are also learning what His teachings mean and how He means for them to live out the truths compared to what they thought they meant. We enjoy the action, battles, intrigue and how the disciples possibly acted or spoke around the Messiah.

I felt as I read how sand would feel when different characters were racing on camels to battle or to another city. The scene of the arena really stole my breath as a person was chained to a pole, bathed in blood and the lion enters. Whew! It was like being a spectator and wanting to yell for a savior or to the king or queen to spare the life. How Ted Dekker brings the various aspects of the Lord or Scripture or action was just mind boggling.

To be able to travel backwards to a time long past where Christ was living and facing the sacrifice of Himself for all mankind deeply touched the heart of this reader. Both books, A. D. 30 & 33, are definitely novels to share with those who love to read or love history. When anyone opens these books, be prepared to be challenged and changed as the words or actions of a character you might relate to responds to Yeshuas offer.

With the holidays around the corner, please consider giving a set of these novels to people you know whether they are family, friends, neighbors or coworkers. Be ready to share what you loved about the stories and hear what the recipients of the novels thought too. Book clubs will really benefit from doing both novels and sharing how various parts of the stories spoke to their heart. Unlike other Ted Dekker novels or other novels of this type, Christ is pointed to and at the end of A. D. 33 there is a link for readers to download a free e-book.

Enjoy the novels as well as what the author shares of his heart before delving into the world of fiction!

There's a lot of royalty in this book. Kings, queens, princes and others in authority. These people carry baggage. It includes intrigue, loyalty, disloyalty, jealousy, hatred and love.

A slave becomes a queen and then is returned to slavery. But Maviah learns that Yeshua is indeed the way to peace and truly living, but like a lot of us loses track of that truth.

This novel is based on Biblical characters and events. As always, this brings Scripture to life and teaches me new things. It is obvious that this author has done much research into this time period. Plus, this book leaves me even more in love with Yeshua.

This is the first book by Mr. Dekker that I have read, but I don't want it to be the last. Thank you, sir, for such an enjoyable book.
