Terry5 Stars Out Of 5Bible stories, Scripture, Great Illustrations - What More Could you Want!?!April 2, 2017TerryQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I had the SUPER FUN opportunity to review the great book for toddlers called 100+ Little Bible Words brought to you by B&H Kids and illustrated by Holli Conger. The book is a padded board book that measures 8 x 8 x 1" and weighs almost 2 lbs., so it might be a little cumbersome for the tiniest of hands - or be a dangerous weapon! However, on the plus side, this book seems about as tough as nails, so it should withstand some serious abuse.
The book contains 18 full-page spreads, each depicting a scene from a prominent Bible story. Each scene includes illustrations of the characters, animals, land features, buildings, and other items that you would expect to see in the scene. Each scene has a heading and Bible verse from that particular story. The Scripture used throughout the book is from multiple translations, including the NIV, NKJV, and NCV. The illustrations are vivid and super toddler-friendly.
Some of the OT scenes include the stories of the Garden of Eden, Joseph, and Moses and The Ten Commandments. Words your kids will learn from these scenes include fruit, snake, coat, brothers, Pharaoh, smoke, Israelites, and altar. Some of the NT scenes include Jesus calling His disciples, Jesus calming the storm, and, to my surprise and delight, Jesus dies on the cross (kid-appropriate, of course). I mention this last bit because I recently went through a stack of about 15 kids' Easter books that told the Easter story and none of them even mentioned the fact that Jesus was actually crucified and resurrected! I understand that the idea might be scary for kids if not explained appropriately, but without it, what is the point of Easter? End rant.
Words your kids will learn from the NT scenes include fishermen, Peter, storm, afraid, cross, and tomb. I think you'll find that your kids might already know some if not many of the Bible words included in 100+ Little Bible Words. However, for kids to see a picture in the context of a Bible story and then match that up with the printed word in big, bold, easy-to-read letters makes for a multi-sensory learning experience.
You won't go wrong with this book as a gift for someone else or to add to your child's collection. It could also be used in a young Sunday School class or in the nursery during your church service. It was an absolute pleasure to review this book!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from B&H Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
