Product Description

Create and control out-of-body experiences. That is the one goal Dr Gabriella Special is working towards, and the reason she has assembled a team of the top scientists from around the world. Reese Clawson's mind bending experiments aim to explode the boundaries of human consciousness - and in the process, annihilate his opposition. But a terrifying discovery and a string of failed tests threaten to dismantle both programs and the key to survival may reside in the mind of a gifted grad student whose unsettling dreams have thrust him into the center of a lethal battle for control.

Publisher's Description

Reese Clawson's work is mind-bending--literally. Her company specializes in global data analysis for an elite group of industry executives, and now a lucrative government contract is moving her into the realm of cutting-edge intelligence gathering. She is determined to crack the limits of consciousness--and in doing so, the boundaries of secrets and lies. But her experiment crashes as test subjects slide into a coma-like state. Reese is left scrambling to maintain control, drawing three disparate people into the search for answers--an adrenaline-amped thrill junkie with altered brain chemistry, an Italian scientist working on remote-viewing technology, and a math prodigy whose algorithms subvert
computer encryption.

Will this piecemeal team prevail when a government operative is sent to investigate? As the threads of perception and reality become tangled and even time itself twists in unexpected directions, one warning remains clear: what you don't know can kill you.

With a concept so daring and writing so gripping, readers will swiftly fall under the spell of Thomas Locke's endlessly creative mind. This thrilling psychological journey into the very nature of causation and consciousness will leave them turning the pages and grasping for solid ground.

Trial Run is the first book of the Fault Lines series by Thomas Locke (aka Davis Bunn). This book is about two differentprograms competing to achieve the ability to have safe andcontrolled "transits" or "ascents" - out of body experiences. As both programs experience unforeseen complications, it becomes a tighter competition and a race to save the lives of their team members.

This book is very complex right off the bat, introducing you to several key players within the first few chapters, jumping around a lot, and expecting you to somehow keep track of who everyone is and where each game plan is headed. This book is definitely not for those that have a hard time keeping everything straight when stories get complicated.

I had a hard time keeping an interest for the firstthird of the book, but kept reading because I really like Locke's writing style. The secondthird of the book was a smoother ride, but still not really getting to the point fast enough for my taste. The lastthird of the book, I couldn't set it down, and was caught off guard by the abrupt ending. I want to know the rest of the story. Looks like I'm headed off to order book number 2 soon. 4/5 stars.

This is a mind blowing, mind bending, rip roaring book. The author takes you to places that you just get blown away. You feel like you are on a major roller coaster ride then you realize you aren't on the tracks. This book is about new age out of body experiences and harnessing it, one kid of course is especially gifted, What are they going to do to him? What kind of harm comes his way? How does our government get involved? Let me tell you.....Nah I couldn't ruin it for you but once you start reading this you won't stop reading it until you get all the answers.

Futuristic out-of-body "transits" allow participants to move forward or backward in time since they escape its bounds. What could this ability allow spies to accomplish, and what might happen if it's used by those with no conscience? This techno-thriller brings together all this and much more. The first book of the Fault Lines series runs away with the imagination and leaves readers desiring more while wondering if anything like the events portrayed could ever really occur. Even if the mathematic probabilities and quantum physics are beyond understanding, the excitement of the story offers a run you don't want to end.

Imagine a world where anything you do in a precognitive state (future or past events happen in a dream state) can and does literally happen. For Trent it's a very real problem. Shane Shearer is an undergrad working on her MBA. Both Trent and Shane soon realize they're in way over their heads. Two shadow organizations fight one another to find solutions to their problems. One organization seeks Trent to solve its problems, the other wants to help those who are in comas come out of them. What you don't know can kill you.

This is one of many of Thomas Locke's (a pseudonym of Davis Bunn) books. Mostly built on physics concepts, with a character (Trent) who has waking precognitive dreams, the book is a non-stop thrill ride. While the main thrust of the book is

science fiction, it is also suspenseful and a thriller. It has received five stars from myself as I found the book hard to put down once I was into the book.

I didn't have a huge problem with the plot or characters, setting or the its themes. If anything I found most of the characters like-able, with a smattering of bad guys. Overall, I truly liked this book.

Disclaimer - I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my honest review.
