In this commentary Donald Wiseman brings to this portion of Scripture his lifelong study of the archaeology, history, languages and documents of the ancient Near East. No other commentary on Kings offers as much historical background and well-considered judgment in such concise and accessible form.
The original, unrevised text of this volume has been completely retypeset and printed in a larger, more attractive format with the new cover design for the series.

Series: Tyndale Commentary
"Tyndale commentaries are always useful, not least because they focus so clearly on the text of Scripture, and do not fall into the trap of paying too much attention to other commentaries and not enough to the scriptural text they are intended to expound and explain. So they retain their usefulness for preachers, Bible study leaders and for all readers of the Bible."
"Within its constraints, this series includes some outstanding volumes."
"There simply is no series of medium-length commentaries that approaches the excellence of the Tyndale commentaries."
MikeWyomingAge: 45-54Gender: male3 Stars Out Of 5Good in some ways; overall a great choice, thoughOctober 8, 2012MikeWyomingAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 3Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3I'm finding there is a lack of good commentaries on 1st & 2nd Kings from an evangelical standpoint. Thus, this commentary, although deficient in some passages, is on the whole one of the only good choices. I would recommend it for that reason alone.

I have found them to be a great resource to assist my preparation for teaching Sunday School.
RICHARD HOLTClovis, NMAge: 45-54Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5A good value.April 16, 2011RICHARD HOLTClovis, NMAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4Wiseman is a highly respected conservative scholar, author, and editor. His work on 1&2 Kings is the best thing available for discussions of archaeological evidence and the historical reliability of these two OT books. This is especially needed on the books of Kings as their reliability has often been questioned. Wiseman's theological comments are not quite as strong, but are still helpful.
