DonboyerTampa, FLAge: 45-54Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5The NLT grips my heart with relevant translation.February 4, 2012DonboyerTampa, FLAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5These three translations lift the word off the flat printed page into a three dementional look at the scriptures. To the left, the familiar, in the center, perfect foundational source, and to the right, the translation that fits this time in history. To the team of Mounce and Mounce I would like to say, the NLT feeds my hunger to comprehend the Word as if you were across the table from me, explaining in person.
I also would like to say the font is the right size. Larger would have made the book too big. A more convient size, which would have led to a smaller print, would have been unaccepable.

It has opened up study of the scripture in exciting new ways. I have always struggled with the Biblical Languages, but with this resource I am able to parse each word and better understand how it fits in the whole of the passage. I am able to keep up with my senior pastor (a Dr. from Dallas Theological) as he is studying the text!

I was also expection a pronunciation guide to the greek words. There should also be at least some reference to the major textual variants.
Just PaulArizonaAge: 35-44Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5This goes way beyond "helpful."January 19, 2011Just PaulArizonaAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5With the TNIV and NLT translations surrounding the original Greek text, along with the literal English meanings of the Greek wording, I've been able to better grasp how it was that the translators reached the decisions they did in their particular translations. However, I'm not sure if I would call the NLT the "word-for-word" translation, between the two. Most of everything I've read and seen seems to indicate the TNIV would fall more towards the formal equivalency. IMO, the NLT is more free or dynamic and the TNIV would be more of a mediating balance. For a more literal translation, I would probably go with the NKJV, ESV, or Amplified version.
