This set is a steal for 39.99 USD! It is theological enough. I was surprised as I flicked through just how much infirmation is in this set!

The shipment was in great condition and arrived in a timely fashion. It was exactly what my husband was looking for to add to his library. He is quite the biblical scholar and is looking forward to furthering his biblical studies with this set.

This five volume set is truly a bargain at this price. The combination of readabilty and conservative scholarship make this an unbeatable tool for both quick reference and serious study. Its only drawbacks are the lack of color enhancement and the "latest" archaeological discoveries. I heartly recommend these volumes.

Great set of encyclopedias. Good for the reference for quick and easy look-ups. Also, good for teachers to use in the Sunday School to explain things to younger children. Very helpful to have such wonderful pictures.

In response to the earlier comments about this Bible encyclopedia being "liberal," I want to make it clear that this is definitely NOT a liberal Bible encyclopedia but an evangelical one. It does seem to be more from the left side of the evangelical spectrum, but it should not be classified as being theologically liberal. Now that this encyclopedia has been revised, this particular edition is now considered "outdated" so the price has droped very significantly. Buy it while you can at this price! It is very helpful in giving you a basic understanding of virtually anything in the Bible. If you have the money, you might want to buy the revised version, but if you want information on anything in the Bible in print and for a great price, you'll probably never find a better deal than this!

The Bible encyclopedia appears to be a collection of a lot of helpful information for someone who would like to make an indepth study of the bible. The price of the 5-volume encyclopedia is very reasonable compared to what other book suppliers offer. It would have been perfect if it had more colored pictures.

It saves a lot of time to learn about a particular subject as opposed to looking up numerous scriptures to obtain the same information , ie. jebusites. Actually it gives you a little more since it includes information from outside the scriptures.

The value of this Biblical Encyclopedia is unmatched in my experience. It may be a little light for a Seminarian, or a little advanced for an 11 year old girl. But all-in-all you get a nice little reference set for a great price. I was surprised when i saw that it only rated at four stars because its a really solid deal. Then I read the three negative reviews of now fifty-four and understood why. One of the three was a very positive assessment though it only rated one star: an obvious mistake by the reviewer. Another one complained that there were no colorful pictures and that it read like a dictionary. I doubt this person has purchased any text books recently because if this collection were to have been printed with color photos- like most textbooks are- the price might be many times what it is currently. Secondly, condensing the work of 200 scholars into 5000 pages is very impressive and virtually impossible to do without being a little matter-of-fact from time to time. Lastly, the more recent of the negative reviews implies that the set is very un-orthodox and defies 'a literal, complementarian view of the Bible.' For that I have to say that the basis of evangelical scholarship is an understanding of biblical authority. Liberalism is arbitrary and dependent upon subjective opinion; I, for one would not assume that the afore mentioned reviewer has a very well balanced or moderated understanding of such. And lastly, perhaps there is some sort of geographical or cultural paradigm that I just haven't yet experienced, but basing your opinion of a biblical reference work on its accurate portrayal of the 'complementarian view of the Bible' is probably at least a little unreasonable. So obscure is this 'complementarian' interjection that its definition cannot be found in Marriam-Webter dot com, dictionary dot reference dot com, or msn encarta. On wikipedia it speaks of a sort of complimentary roles of the masculine and feminine in theology... Well that’s new to me.
