This is the Bible Dictionary that Gordon Fee recommends in his book, "How to read the Bible for all its worth". Very happy I splurged and bought it. I'm already enjoying my Bible study time more as a result of having this useful tool.
I purchased the Zondervan Bible Dictionary to aid in pronouncing the names and to understand the meaning of the words in the Bible. The pictures are great with beautiful colors. I would definitely recommend the Zondervan Bible Dictionary to friends.
Have owned the 5 volume version for many years. This was bought for a friend who teaches adult Sunday School. We both think it covers all the main subjects without so much of the theological wrangling that the bigger set contains. Just right for the vast majority looking for concise, accurate, readable information.
Prior I had purchased the 2003 edition of Holmans Bible Dictionary and am very happy with it's presentation and contents. However, I wanted the updated timelines and references, so I added the Zondervan Illustrated Bible Dictionary to my Library. As is with Zondervan as I skimmed through it, know I'll be just as happy with this version as with Holman's. The graphics are excellent, along with the location pictures. If you were to go with just the Zondervan 2011 edition you probably wouldn't need the Holman's 2003 edition.
If you are looking at the Zondervan Encyclopedia but can't fit it into your budget (like myself), this book is the perfect alternative. For 20 bucks, you really can't go wrong with this purchase; the information inside is solid, awesome pictures, and great feel to the book overall.
