PARKER J. PALMER is senior associate of the American Association for Higher Education and senior advisor to the Fetzer Institute. In 1998, he was named one of the thirty most influential senior leaders in higher education. Author of such widely praised books as The Courage to Teach and To Know As We Are Known, he holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a member of the Religious Society of FriAnds (Quaker) and lives in Madison, Wisconsin.

The Leadership Project, a 1998 survey of 10,000 American educators, named him one of the thirty most influential senior leaders in higher education and one of ten key "agenda-setters" of the past decade. Author of six previous books---including the bestsellers Let Your Life Speak and The Courage to Teach--–his writing has been recognized with eight honorary doctorates and several national awards. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and lives in Madison, Wisconsin.

    As a deep thinker, and with beautiful understanding, Palmer takes high-order reflection and makes it applicable in one's daily life. A wonderful book to help one discern one's unique sense of meaning in God's love.

    DO NOT waste your time or your money on this book. It is definitely not a Christian book, but heavily New Age spiritualism, pro-homosexual, sacredness of self and nature etc. God is thrown in here and there, probably only to expand the market of the book. I won't even give this book away; it's to the trash heap with this one.

    This is not a very good book. He refers to God as he/she. That borders on blasphemy. The only redeeming value is that he encourages people to look to themselves rather than others for their calling in life.

    Great book! He deals humorously and compassionately with the issue of finding one's calling in life. It's great to hear that I'm not the only one who's taken detours along the way.
