This book is not a one-size-fits-all approach to lifestyle change. It doesnt offer a ten-step formula or a one-minute prayer that guarantees success in 30 days. This book is about you. Its about discovering and developing what you do well, what you love, and what brings you joy so you can see yourself the way God sees you and begin to truly receive His best for your life. Unlike some self-improvement books, you wont be asked to:
Instead, Bonnie gives you tools and resources to help you:
Elma Schemenauer4 Stars Out Of 5April 2, 2009Elma SchemenauerBonnie Grove says if you're good at something, take it and run with it. Don't waste energy worrying about your weaknesses. Instead use your gifts, passions, talents and strengths to enjoy life and accomplish the character changes you desire. Bonnie--a Canadian pastor's wife in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan--spent years as a developer of lifestyle-change programs, and now leads interactive self-help workshops and seminars. Her book Your Best You features a strength-based approach to problem-solving in one's life. It teaches readers to combine their true strengths with their truegoals in creating a map to navigate the road toward desired changes. Topicsinclude: finding your strengths, breaking free of addictions, prioritizing life goals, the importance of social support, and maintaining desired changes in one's life. All this is presented from a Christian point of view but written in such a way that it's also accessible and helpful to a wider readership.Numerous workbook-type pages help the reader personally apply the book's teachings. The text is broken up with inspiring quotations from personalities as diverse as Mother Teresa, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Victor Borge. The cover shows a woman wearing a pink, black and white dress. She's trying to decide what shoes to wear with it; in other words, how to play to the strengths of that dress. Obviously the red shoes won't do it. Neither will the yellow. The black ones are just right. Similarly Grove hopes her book will help readers find "just right" solutions to help them live more complete and fulfilling, less anxious lives.

Tell us a little about yourself. I developed and wrote social programs for families at risk before landing my first publishing deal for Working Your Best You: Discovering and Developing the Strengths God Gave You. My debut novel is Talking to the Dead (Summer, 2009, David. C. Cook). My husband, Steve, is a pastor. We have two young children; we live in Saskatchewan, Canada.
What was your motivation behind this project? After years researching and writing social programs, I came to understand big changes aren't really big at all. They are small changes that ripple through a life to create change. In addition, I discovered when people are taught to use their strengths in every area of their life, making a change can actually be enjoyable!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? A deeper connection with the God who created them and stuffed them full of good things (talents, abilities, aptitudes - in other words, strengths!) I hope people will connect with the best parts of themselves, and begin to live life authentically - Which means living the life you were intended to live, not the life other people think you should live.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I discovered a confidence and a peace I've never experienced before. Because I've personally done every exercise in the book, I was able to map my own journey toward my true goals - and through that experience, God has led me to places I never dreamed for myself!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Brennan Manning Rich Mullins Henri Nouwen Donald Miller My husband, Steve Grove Dr. Jim Horley (University of Alberta) The families who have allowed me to sit with them, talk with them, and learn from them.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Your Best You: Discovering and Developing the Strengths God Gave You is a true "how to" book. Rather than offering advice that may or may not work for you, this book walks you through the journey of your life, guiding you to ask and answer the questions that matter to you.
