The Young Man in the Mirror is a great book written for teen guys ages 13 to 18. The book opens with Morley's life story which ropes the reader from the first paragraph. The author covers morals, dating situations, and other life impacting decisions.
As a 14 year guy, this book encouraged me to be a godly man and leader in this world. Morley used illustrations from his own life as examples of what to do or what not to do. He stated that men want to have a mission in life. If there is no mission, there is no life. God designed men to be protectors. A man cannot be a protector and a jerk at the same time.
Morley is a popular speaker in my area in the Midwest for men's retreats and his books are frequently used in men's Bible studies. The Young Man in the Mirror could be a Bible study opportunity for older men to mentor the next generation.
The Young Man in the Mirror instructs teenage boys how to live honorably. I tend to be a reluctant reader, but didn't have any trouble getting through this book. I passed my copy on to my friend. I recommend The Young Man in the Mirror for all young men and older men who act young. -- Josiah Wells, Christian Book

The chapters on Dating and Sex were unbiblical. A few examples: the author recommends lots of casual dating. He says dating a non-Christian is sometimes okay as long as you have no plans of marrying them. He says kissing after only a few dates is fine, masturbation also, as long as it isn't "compulsive" (several times a week is considered compulsive to him). He does say not to look at porn or have premarital sex, but overall those chapters are not good.

Terrible book. Does not promote Christian Godly principles. Does not promote purity. Promotes anything goes Christianity and that is very sad. This book supported every worldly view that I was hoping not to have my son focus on.

I (like many others, I'm sure) have a group of young men in my church that are hard to reach with real Truth. This book is a great conduit and we are actually having discussions now! I highly recommend this book to those who are trying to reach out to the young men in their church (and even visitors). The book goes straight to "where the rubber meets the road" and is VERY relevant to the lives of young men today.

YMIM has a great format that high school guys in my small group have readily embraced. Reading aloud through each section, as the author recommends, has been an easy way to make sure every guy says "something", and warms them to sharing more personally. Most of the chapters are "right on" and easy to support wholeheartedly. I did not read each section as carefully as I might have before handing it out, and am finding that I am having to do some supplementing in areas that really should have stronger parental (paternal) input. Any youth leader or volunteer using this book should be starting with a "family model" mindset to make sure the teaching is pre- and post-scripted with a focus on finding out what each guy's parents value. I will most likely use it again.

Excellent book.I wish I had something this informative when I was a teen. I had no direction and made horrible choices.I pray that with God's direction in our lives and the helpful information contained in this book, our son will not be walking into the hardest years of his life blind. Highly recommend this book for all parents of teen sons.
