You'll Get Through This: Hope And Help For Your Turbulent Times, written by Max Lucado, is a book that helps it reader understand that trials and tribulations can be overcome and utilized for growth.
To all of our lives, adversity will arrive. While life would be better without trials, difficulties and/or trials are an ever present part of our existence upon this earth. But these moments do not have to take over our lives, our thinking, or drastically alter the paths in which we are walking. In this publication, Max looks at some of these difficult moments of life and shares examples of how God can use them for His glory and the strengthening of our faith.
For its Biblical inspiration, this publication focuses on the difficulties in the life of Joseph. Being sold into slavery by his older brothers, wrongfully imprisoned in Egypt, forgotten, scorned, and mistreated, makes Joseph's story the perfect example of how God can utilize the difficulties of life and use them for our good and His glory.
The impact of this publication cannot be overstated. Thus it is a recommended purchase/read for anyone who has or is currently walking through one of life's struggles.
You'll Get Through This: Hope and Help for Your Turbulent Times by Max Lucado
Summary: Sometimes the challenges of life threaten to overwhelm us. We wonder how we'll carry on after the day the bottom dropped out. For you, it may have been the day of a financial crisis, a bad diagnosis, an accident, or you were served divorce papers by your spouse. Whatever it was, you knew your life was going to change dramatically, and it didn't seem like it was for the better.
In You'll Get Through This: Hope and Help for Your Turbulent Times, Max Lucado encourages readers through sharing the Biblical story of Joseph. Stripped of his identity, thrown into a pit and sold as a slave, his was a story of defeat and challenges, but as time passed God worked through his circumstances to bring redemption and reconciliation. And although it may seem hard to believe, you will get through this too.
The story of Joseph's life didn't end in the pit and neither does yours.
Reaction: I have always loved the writing style of Max Lucado, and this book did not disappoint me. I found myself comparing my struggles with those that Joseph endured and seeing how it is that God can work through these times and make absolute good come out of it. Faith isn't an assurance that we won't face troubles, but is a promise to help us through them. We can only dig deep into the source of strength that we have as believers and know that God is ultimately in control of all situations. I need more than wishful thinking to help me face struggles that threaten to overwhelm me, this book provides me with that. I appreciate Max Lucado's candor as he reveals his own turbulent times and how God used them for good.
I reviewed this book as part of the Booksneeze blogger program.
Lucado is a wonderful writer, very clear. His examples are concise and are always conducive to the points he is making. I found it very helpful and true to many of my experiences, as if the writer was talking to me personally. That is the mark of a good writer. i think many readers may have that reaction in reading this and so it serves its purpose. There is section at the back of the book, with questions to reflect upon that are based on information given in each chapter. It allows you to explore this journey once again and delve deeper. Definitely worth the read.
During turbulent times this book offers encouragement. Max Lucado writes about the life of Joseph and parallels his story with the hard times that all of us face in this life. We often view situations or seasons in this life as unfair. We may feel that The Lord has abandoned us or somehow failed us. However, if we could see a glimpse of what The Lord is doing behind the scenes we may be comforted during challenging times. The key is often found in trusting The Lord with our whole heart. Does it make it easier? Not necessarily. It just means that we can find comfort in knowing that The Lord is working something out for our good. Joseph certainly went through years of trouble and pain but all the while The Lord was working to achieve His purpose.
I have always loved the story of Joseph. A man who endured so much yet held tightly to his faith. I found this book very refreshing and encouraging. I enjoy Mr. Lucado's style of writing as he can pack a powerful punch in few words. One of the powerful lines in this book is found on page 116. Mr. Lucado writes, "Forgiveness doesn't diminish justice, it just entrusts it to God." No matter what season you are going through in life, I believe you can be encouraged by this book.
