With honesty, humor, and compassion, author Greg Dutcher addresses a contemporary problem that most Christians arent even aware of: idolatry. He reminds his readers that there is a battle to be fought, and what is at stake is our lives, the lives of others, and, most importantly, the reputation of Christ Himself. With winsome anecdotes, references to modern culture, biblical references, and nods to respected theologians such as Charles Spurgeon, John Piper, and C. S. Lewis, Dutcher makes us aware of the problem, helps us isolate it, and then gives us the weapons to contain it. Study questions at the end of each chapter make this a great individual or group Bible study.
Greg Dutcher is senior pastor of Christ Fellowship Church in Fallston, Maryland. He and his wife, Lisa have four children.
IreneUnited States4 Stars Out Of 5Putting Christ FirstAugust 28, 2012IreneUnited StatesQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This book is about how often we put others and things before our relationship with Christ. The book offers some great insight for creating a healthy relationship with the world and therefore our Lord.
The author uses thoughtful quotes to help emphasize the principle he is teaching. There were plenty of examples and verses to help you understand how idolatry can overtake your life. I liked how the authors' sense of humor shone through during some of his stories. The study questions were helpful and gave you a chance to study some scripture and principles on your own.
I gave this book 4/5 stars. The layout was easy to follow and the book itself was easy to understand. I did find parts of the book to drag along. That said if you feel like you could use a reminder of how important putting Christ first in your life is, this book will be a great read.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
No 1 Rev ModieColumbus, OHAge: 55-655 Stars Out Of 5I had no other gods before the true God...April 9, 2012No 1 Rev ModieColumbus, OHAge: 55-65Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5As I read the examples Mr. Dutcher gave of modern day idols, I was astonished to find I had more than one God. I agree, there is a lot of cool stuff out there. However, when I think of what Christ did to set me free, I am more than willing to let those other gods go.
