RHOhioAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5beautiful descriptive readJuly 1, 2016RHOhioAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Yankee Heart, written by Jennifer A. Davids, is the first book Ive read by this author, but definitely not the last!
Katherine is from South Carolina and has come north to Ohio with her friend and neighbor, Mary, to help her as her sister is very sick and all of her family has gone to war. When arriving Katherine realizes how much she doesnt fit into the Northerners lives. Resentment is deep toward her. Soon after arriving Marys sister passes away and her nephew, Daniel, arrives home from war.and the rest is history
I loved how Davids describes the area in Ohio where Mary and Katherine moved and especially the trip that Daniel and to the Statehouse! Ive been there and know what it looks like and yet I could see it all through the words of her book! Beautiful job!
My favorite character is Daniel. Hes had a rough time dealing with being a soldier and then when he comes back to Ohio he has to figure out how to be a farmer since he never wanted to be a farmer, but rather a professor at Ohio Wesleyan. Even though hes gone through so much emotionally between war and the events after he returns to Ohiohe shows what a caring, considerate man he truly is.
I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.

It accurately portrays how too often Yankees felt about Southerners during and immediately following the Civil War. The book is easy to read and a good Christian story as well. The only thing I did not like about the book is its cover. Personally I did not find it appealing at all.
