A team of superhuman genetic mutants battles both prejudice and their evil counterparts who seek to mutate the world s leaders.
Superman, Wonder Woman fairly straightforward, black-and-white superheroes. Enter X-Men, a loose team of misfit and outcast superhuman mutants with enough angst and inner conflict to fill a whole secret lair. The film tells the story of a group of humans who have undergone genetic mutations (evolution in fast forward, supposedly), leaving them to deal with not only the burden of superpowers, but also the fear and discrimination of average humans. So these outcasts band together some to help regular humans towards understanding, and others to teach those prejudiced Homo sapiens a lesson. All of these conflicts come to a head in this film.
This study guide will help you discuss some of the questions raised by this film. How do we address prejudice and oppression? What role does tolerance play in a frightening world? What is the power of community in an individualized society?
