Product Description

Luke Timothy Johnson offers a compelling interpretation of the New Testament as a witness to the rise of early faith in Jesus. Critically judicious and theologically attuned to the role of the New Testament in the life of the church, Johnson deftly guides his reader through a wealth of historical and literary description and invites critical reflection on the meaning of these ancient writings for today.

The third edition is carefully updated and includes new student-friendly format and features, including a new design and study and reflection questions. Other resources for teachers and students, including different suggestions for teaching from or alongside the textbook, are available under the other tabs on this page.

here is an outstanding textbook for learning about the writings of the new tesament. Luke Timothy Johnson is a bona fide New Testament scholar, and he has produced this very helpful and solid study of the new testament writings. deals with backgrounds, content, big picture themes and details, and more. simply a solid and excellent scholarly, yet very readable, treatment on the subject. among his many strengths in this study, is his focus on the symbolic nature of many aspects of the new testament literature/meaning as stemming from its original setting in the ancient world. this is a vital part of grasping the new testament writings on their own terms. Johnson's book is one of the best new testament intro's currently available. this is not a short concise intro, it is a fairly thorough study, and will go a long ways towards educating one on the new testament literature.
