Outlines, vocabulary, thesaurus skills, drafts and other necessary writing skills will be introduced to the students as they listen to reading passages on American History. Reproducible worksheets include room for creating a new title, underlining and defining vocabulary words, looking up words in a thesaurus and finding synonyms, and outlining the story with the key word synonyms. A rewriting checklist is included for when the student summarizes the story (on a separate piece of paper). 45 pages, paperback, spiral-bound.

I feel that being able to summarize information is vital to the education of my children. This book has made it simple for me to teach writing to my children along side with their studies of American History.

This guide is an excellent tie-in with the Institute for Writing Excellence. It lays out one year of lessons, at a comfortable pace which follows the "Benjamin Franklin" approach to writing: make a key word outline, and rewrite the paragraph from your outline adding your own improvements. Allows the child to write well and be creative from a 'starting point". I used with many ages at the same time (4th up to 10th)
