teaching4MOAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Nice addition to the student textAugust 24, 2014teaching4MOAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4The teacher's edition does provides answers, though some are suggested answers as students will not write identically.
I like the teacher edition for a couple of reasons. The TE is good for me since I have a couple of kids in the same book and I have them sit side by side while I am across from them (they each have their own book). I can see the full student text within this book and keep eye contact and focus on the two boys. There are dictations listed in each lesson in the TE, an easier level one and a more advanced dictation. I also like that for the parts of the book that require a specific answer I can just confirm that. There is plenty of room to add your own notes to the book. Certainly the book leaves space for you to adjust for your own teaching.
There are also a couple of things that are negatives, however, they wouldn't keep me from using the book. One is the fact that within the summary lesson it suggests copying from the original. My son in 8th grade, his English just said NOT to include the original text as a summary should be in your own words. So I just correct that point with the 2 using this book. My other negative about this book is simply the cost. I feel if you are using two books in a year (times each person) that it can get costly. However if this program really helps my kids develop their writing skills I suppose it will be worth it.
The premise of this series seems to be that you learn language by what is modeled for you. Even when you write you learn to write by the example of reading before you. So I might even encourage you to be sure your child is reading valuable writing on a regular basis.
