It is! Both girls are always excited to get to do their "handwriting" work.
This book definitely has a much heavier emphasis on drawing, though, than on handwriting. The kids love it, but are they getting the handwriting instruction that they need? I'm not totally convinced yet. The premise, as I understand it, is that practice in controlling their writing as they draw will also improve their handwriting. We'll see...
I do like the animal science tidbits sprinkled throughout the book. If nothing else, this a great supplement to an elementary zoology course.

Lisa Figueroa5 Stars Out Of 5January 26, 2005Lisa FigueroaThis book is very fun and educational. The drawing instruction is very easy to follow and produces great pictures. I enjoyed doing them with my kids! The suggested books that go with each animal drawn were a nice addition. It made for an easy to put together unit study. My kids also use them independently to draw the pictures again and again. I bought another one and am going to start that soon. If I had known how good these books were, I probably would have bought the entire set at once instead of book by book.
