This is one of the most beautiful children's stories out there, dealing with everything from loyalty to conformity and the dangers of both. Anyone afriad to expose their kids to it needs to carefully consider their own biases and blind spots. Knowledge is better than fear.

For those that live in fear of a broader experience that expands past the overworked domain of "Christian Rightchesness", I would say stay away! For those that see the struggle between good and evil as an ongoing, multi-dimensional task, I would say read this book now! The author, an avowed and practised Christian, saw this parable as an analogy to the eternal struggle between good and evil, with good winning hands-down. Those that would persecute this wonderful novel based on the strictest interpretation of gospel are missing the larger point.

Unlike the user review that I read of this book, I am not speaking from a theological viewpoint, but rather from a viewpoint of a neutral reader. I must say, I think that the book is terrible literature. The spiritual nature aside, I think that this book should not be forced on children in any class, or really suggested by any parents. It has nothing of any value to teach, or nothing that hasn't been done before and better. While its entertainment value is somewhat pleasant, it is overwhlemed by ideas obviously meant for an older audience than its rather juvenile nature suggests. For both entertainment and learning I would far more suggest Giovanni Boccacio's "Decameron".

A "Wrinkle In Time" is a book that I do NOT recommend anyone to read because of the occultic nature of the storyline. This book, while considered "good literature" is not "good theology" and violates Deuteronomy 18:9-12 which forbides spiritism. This book very craftily teaches and introduces moral relativism (stealing, lying, the end justifying the means, etc.), divination, spells, mediums posing as "good witches" using their crystal balls for "good purposes", has a little boy who becomes demon possessed and deals with space travel, which is eerily close to today's new age astral projection. All this with Scripture popping up here and there to make it look good. I know my 5th to 9th grade children do NOT have the ability to discern all the doctrinal errors and dangers in this book. It IS a well written book. So well written that it takes the reader's mind into the world of the occult in a way that could intrigue an unprotected child and cause him to want to dabble in the "fun" of spiritism. CAUTION: Please preview this book before handing it to your child. You, the parent, are responsible before God for what you place before your children. This book could very well be a stumbling block of very big proportions.
