Wrinkle in Time Quintet, 5 Volumes
Disappointing read; confused scriptural meanings
Our teenage daughter stopped reading the first book after she came to the parts about Buddha and Gandhi as well as other non-Christians being a light in darkness and quotes Scripture to support this - pages 100-101, and also the next chapter is about "The Happy Medium" which uses a crystal ball.
As her mother I was astonished since this series was recommended, so I read the entire series and found much to confuse scriptural basis. Book 3 deals with a main character indwelling other people to help them make the "right" choices in other time periods. Book 4 has a character not mentioned in the Bible get "taken up" with God as Enoch did. Book 5 has many problems. It deals with death and a characters fear of it. It talks a lot about the great "Power" - a goddess in another culture. It brings no mention of Jesus being the only way and instead says things like 1) the "dark side" of God- pg 93, 2) powers of love will help us if we respond with love- pg 177, 3) Jesus did not have to shed his blood to save us- pg 195.
These were only a few of the items that might confuse kids (and adults!) reading this series. The concepts of time travel and such were interesting, but in the stretch to reach out to explore different beliefs and belief systems, one must be firmly grounded in the truth. These books don't provide a firm foundation for that, in my opinion.

Every kid should read these books.Every adult should read these books.Every Christian should read these books.Every non-Christian should read these books.Everybody should read these books.Well-developed, thrilling plots, brilliant dialogue, memorable characters, climactic battles between good and evil... how could they get better? Solidly rooted in timeless values such as love, friendship, loyalty, faith, courage, and self-sacrifice, these are beautiful, powerful books that I would reccommend to anybody, and that anybody could profit from. Please, please read them... you have no idea what you'll be denying yourself, your imagination, and your spiritual life if you don't.
