Volume I contains a Memoir by William Harris and Manton's outstanding expositions on the Lord's Prayer; The Temptations of Christ; The Transfiguration and also Colossians, Chapter 1.
The works of Thomas Manton present us with what was most characteristic in the ministry of the English Puritans: careful, solid, warm-hearted applicatory exposition of the Scriptures, great pastoral concern and a balanced wisdom.
Works of Thomas Manton Volume 1
This is pure gold, pure adoration of God. Manton, in classic Puritan style, places God where He belongs and all Glory where it too belongs, IN HIM! The exposition of the Lord's Prayer is brilliantly done, rich in detail and touching in its deep devotion to God. This is NOT a quick read. There is depth in almost every line, supported by multiple references to Scripture; Manton's writing is almost "drinkable," it is so inspiring! Who would WANT to hurry? I highly recommend this book (and the 3-vol. set) for all who seek a deep spiritual understanding of God and His Glory.
