Wordly Wise 3000, Grade 4, 2nd Edition

Three thousand carefully selected words taken from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books are the basis of this exciting vocabulary series that teaches new words through reading, writing, and a variety of exercises. Each lesson's alphabetized word list gives pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions, and uses each word in a sentence. Interesting, engaging, and acting as a mnemonic anchor for the word, sentences are anything but boring! Comprehension of the vocabulary words is facilitated and reinforced through the five different exercises repeated in each lesson; new for the 2nd, expanded edition of Wordly Wise, reading first strategies as well as Greek and Latin roots are now included as well!

Wordly Wise 3000, Book 4 contains twenty lessons, and includes 14 new words, along with new exercises. This 2nd edition book replaces the previous Wordly Wise 3000 Book 1, Grade 4. A new reading passage The Forty-Niners replaces Annie Oakley and Word Study replaces the previous exercise "Completing the Thought". 167 two-tone pages, softcover.

This is a great tool for teaching vocabulary to kids. It's divided into sections that easily fit into a five-day schedule.

Great for homeschooling! The five different exercises for each of the 20 lessons include: 1)Finding Meanings (definition match) 2)Just the Right Word (improve a sentence) 3)Applying Meanings (multiple choice) 4)Word Study (synonyms) 5)Passage (reading comprehension) In addition there is a review activity, such as a crossword puzzle, after every four lessons. A complete alphabetized word list is included on the inside back cover. The exercises can be done orally (for use with multiple ages) and take only a few minutes each day.

This has been very helpful to me in keeping my son reading and working on comprehension skills this summer. The various exercises make it interesting and well balanced. I'm glad to be using this curriculum.
