Using a contextual approach, Wordly Wise 3000 students are taught to say unfamiliar words and identify any possible similarities to other words, use the word in context, break the word down into parts, and finally look it up. Three thousand carefully selected words taken from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books form the backbone of this vocabulary series. Each lesson begins with a Word List that includes pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions, and uses each word in an interesting, contextual, sentence. Wordly Wise 3000, Book 11 is comprised of 20 lessons with 15 words in each lesson.
In Book 11, vocabulary instruction focuses on preparing students with strategies to unlock the meaning of words they will encounter in content area texts, literature, and high-stakes tests. Comprehension of the vocabulary words is facilitated and reinforced through Greek and Latin word studies with an emphasis on prefixes, suffixes, parts of speech, synonyms, analogies and other exercises that strengthen reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
This third edition features the same word lists as the second edition, however, the passages and questions that follow the passages have been updated and assigned measures from The Lexile Framework for Reading. Wordly Wise 3000, 3rd Edition is not compatible with 2nd Edition teacher's guides and resources.
Wordly Wise 3000, Book 11 contains 20 lessons; words taught include: duplicitous, eclectic, ecumenical, impugn, inimical, parsimonious, perspicacious, queasy, requiem, retribution, salubrious, tactile, trumvirate, undulate, vicissitudes, and more. Two-tone pages, softcover.

Ron SmorynskiHollywood, CAAge: 35-44Gender: male1 Stars Out Of 5Creation Bias reviewNovember 18, 2014Ron SmorynskiHollywood, CAAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 1So it does have good vocabulary lessons. My daughter thinks its well done. However as Creation Christian, the amount of Evolution propaganda is disheartening. For one evolution claim it uses 'unequivocal' as the vocab word... well of course. There are no Christian lessons or sayings, it is all secular and would make an Atheist proud.
I will not be supporting this any longer.
mdbontra5 Stars Out Of 5New FavoriteJanuary 27, 2014mdbontraQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Our family has used ABeka Spelling and Vocabulary for many years and always enjoyed it, but I believe this is slightly better. The various exercises help to clearly define the "flavor" and proper usage of each word. My daughter finds the weekly "passage" to be interesting and informative. There are enough new (to me) words that I find myself using the book along with my daughter and we look forward to using the 12th grade curriculum next year.
